So why is Microsoft insisting on pushing out a feature it is very clear users just do not want? What is the point of it? It just does not make any sense. Recall makes no sense. It is one of rather many functions that Microsoft wants to force people into using.

Personally I also do not want Copilot on my computer and the idea that there can be a key on my keyboard that I can press that will enable by mistake it is not what I would think most people want.

I believe that there should be a very clear line between what is on your computer and what is in the cloud. Forcing people to log into a Microsoft online account to use their computer is crazy. Having people mistakenly enabling OneDrive is another disaster.

I guess this is all a great opportunity for Linux.

Okay #Linux question...

Is it fast and easy to setup something like #debian with something like #wine to run #PowerPoint and does it play nice with DropBox and Zoom?

I need to use all three of those pieces of software and no I can't switch from PowerPoint or Zoom for the next several months.

And I need it to just work without pain for some important Zoom meetings I have in a few days.

This is all because Dell installed some bad drivers on Windows 10 🙄🙄

Francia deu un paso histórico:
o goberno anuncia que todos os seus ministerios substituirán Windows por Linux antes de finais de 2026.

A razón é clara:
non queren os datos e ferramentas do Estado en mans de grandes corporacións estranxeiras.

A Xendarmería francesa leva case 20 anos con Ubuntu — o salto xa demostrou que é viable.

Is your company looking for a keen self-hoster with plenty of #Linux experience? I grew up with #RaspberryPi and have picked up many skills along the way including #React, backend JavaScript (#NodeJS) and #Docker. My current obsession is monitoring all the things with #Grafana, #PRTG and #Prometheus. I’m based in the UK but open to primarily English-speaking roles in Germany, too. Currently wrapping up my Advanced Software Development degree but eager to continue learning! Boosts appreciated :D

🐧Signal is expanding its Linux support with an official AppImage release of Signal Desktop!

This means that Signal will be officially available on all Linux distributions and not just Debian-based ones.

You can help beta test this new AppImage format by following the instructions outlined in the Signal Community post👇

Edit: Thanks to @GeopJr for pointing this out: this AI assistant is a third-party project and not directly affiliated with the GNOME desktop. I was tripped up by the wording of the Phoronix post I shared, which could have made this point clearer. I'll leave the original post below for the sake of transparency and also in case it helps anyone else who was similarly confused.

I am very twitchy about what's happening with AI polluting every corner of Microsoft Windows and am worried the same will happen to at least some Linux distributions. I think the worry is warranted, but in this case I misfired--sorry about that.

I guess I won't be using GNOME ever again

If you’re on Linux, there’s a good chance you use GNOME: it’s the default experience across Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora Workstation, Endless OS, and more. If you’re on another desktop, you still likely use components developed by GNOME contributors—or maybe you get apps from Flathub.

Want to become more than just a user? How about… a friend? 🥺 Become a Friend of GNOME to support GNOME, Flathub, and the work we do!

I just learned that COSMIC, product made by a company who refused to collaborate with others, now themes libadwaita apps by default?

So a company that:
- publicly harassed volunteers, and invited harassment on them,
- constantly insults the project run by volunteers for not bending to their (i.e. System76) way,
- lies in every possible occasion,

Just broke their promise to not make app developers' apps look like shit via theming. It's almost 2026 and distros still can't respect app developers.
