I walked over, in the rain, to the Animas River that passes near the trailer park. I enjoy walking in the rain. In the couple of weeks I've lived here I've noticed that the Animas River water levels fluctuate quite a lot. It's up today! It's suppose to rain a lot the rest of the night and over Thursday. I wonder what it will look like tomorrow evening?

Hello #SantaFe #NewMexico! 1A Santa Fe, which got the City to close streets to vehicles for the No Kings 3 City March, is now sponsoring a Free Expression and Public Assembly Ordinance. https://1asantafe.beehiiv.com/p/a-petition-drive-in-support-of-proposed-free-expression-and-public-assembly-ordinance-for-the-city-o

Land of Action, the initiative I launched to support grassroots progressive groups across #NewMexico, will be at #SantaFe #Pride festival on 6/27. We want to distribute literature introducing LoA and its work on free and fair elections this November. https://landofaction.org
I need to do a little fundraising to make this possible. Here’s my kofi link https://ko-fi.com/heidi36465. Donations of any size would help. Aiming for $500.
Samples of what we want to hand out are in the following posts! 1/
NEW: Native American Tribes Came Together to Secure Their Rights to Colorado River Water. Four States Are Stalling the Deal.
Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming are resisting the deal because it would allow the Navajo and Hopi to lease water to cities downstream, likely the growing towns around Phoenix.

In 2023, New Mexico’s AG ordered an investigation into one school district after ProPublica and New Mexico In Depth revealed Native students were expelled more often than any other group.
The investigation confirmed “substantial racial disparities.”

The Organ mountains of southern New Mexico...seen from the 'other' side.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organ_Mountains
They are often photographed from the west, and they make a dramatic backdrop to the city of Las Cruces.
This was taken at sunset with the mountains backlit. Only clouds are catching the sun's final rays.
The view looks a bit dusty because I'm shooting through 70 miles of hazy air.
White Sands, New Mexico — where the landscape gets wonderfully simple. 🤍
Miles of white gypsum dunes, a blue New Mexico sky, and those wispy clouds that seemed to echo the curves in the sand. Some places don’t need much else.

Winter in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains above Santa Fe, New Mexico. Snow blankets the trail, frost coats every branch, and the evergreens are dressed in white.
I'm hoping the winter ahead brings us more beautiful scenes like this. With El Niño developing, there's hope for some much-needed moisture and plenty of mountain snow!

There’s nothing quite like winter migration along New Mexico’s Rio Grande bosque. Thousands of Snow Geese suddenly filled the air, wings beating and honking from every direction, while the Sandhill Cranes below seemed to just stand there looking around like, what is all the fuss about? 😂

NEW: Officials in New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, spent millions of dollars drafting separate plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Neither plan took into account how the construction of three new data centers could upend climate goals in both places.

Autumn in the aspens! Golden leaves, pale trunks, and a forest full of color. I love wandering through these groves in the mountains of northern New Mexico, especially when the leaves are at their peak. Every direction offers another beautiful view.

Now THIS is a winter migration spectacle!
Thousands of Snow Geese fill the sky above a field crowded with Sandhill Cranes along New Mexico's Rio Grande bosque. The sheer number of birds is incredible, and the sound of all those wings and calls is something a photograph can never quite capture.
One of my favorite winter sights in New Mexico!
