Planning to move away from Atlassian before 2029?

Replacing Confluence and Jira is one challenge. Keeping knowledge and project work connected afterward is another.

On Nov 12, we are hosting a live session with @openproject covering:
🔹 Latest updates in our migration tooling
🔹Our bidirectional integration
🔹 What to expect from an Atlassian migration
🔹 What’s coming in 2027

Avete esperienze in merito?
Utilizzate dispositivi con so liberi e come vi ci trovate?
Consigli?

🐧 Milá komunito,
máme na vás velkou prosbu
V říjnu jedeme na LinuxDays – chceme tam osobně ukázat OSCloud lidem, co mají blízko k Linuxu, open source a Fediverse. A rádi bychom vás poprosili o pomoc.

Good day! Upcoming episode of Fireside Fedi!

Special Guest: @gabek
My name is Gabe and I'm here to say, I'm rockin on the mic every two or three days. I'm the maintainer and primary developer of Owncast. I'm generally always happy to talk to you about the project, it means a lot to me. I'm not on Mastodon, I'm on the Fediverse. So are you.

Pixelix is now free!

After two and a half years of developing Pixelix and having it as a paid app, we've decided to switch things up and make Pixelix free for everyone.

We’re really excited to see where this takes Pixelix, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us so far.

Interesting. There will be an #ATProto devroom & a Social Web devroom at #FOSDEM. I'd have expected ATProto to be part of the Social Web devroom. I wonder why these are not combined? As far as I can tell there is not a devroom focussed solely on #ActivityPub.

#Omarchy normalizes fascist thinking by providing a platform and community for individuals who share these views.

#dhh #whitesupremacy #opensource #technofascism

There's a lot of folks complaining (rightfully) about the money being thrown toward Omarchy while other FOSS projects are struggling for funds.

I'm not a tech billionaire or millionaire (thousandaire, maybe?) but all this reminds me I could do better at donating to things I use myself. So I'm going to throw some money at two projects I use, and try to remember to keep doing that more regularly. I humbly suggest other folks do the same. It'd be great to see a few FOSS projects report a big bump in donations as a protest against DHH.

A lot is being said about DHH's politics and the silliness of throwing money at what amounts to a pile of configuration scripts -- but there's something else at play here: it is an us-against-them play by a minority of wealthy folks who like keeping other people divided.

FOSS isn't about that: open source became mighty because of its community. If we lose that, we lose everything. A handful of people with too much money have managed to funnel something like $13 million into Omarchy for the next few years. What can millions of people do? Let's see.

#OpenSource

Sharkey is generally no longer actively maintained. Much like IceShrimp, which shifted its focus from IceShrimp-js to IceShrimp.net, Sharkey is effectively in "maintenance mode only." This means it still receives critical security updates and required patches, but it generally no longer tracks upstream Misskey development.

Sharkey's latest release: 2025.4.7

Misskey's latest release: 2026.9.0

I had to laugh when, back on January 13, 2026, they titled a release "2025.4.5 — We'll catch up, we promise." The release right before that had been 6 months earlier. In all the time since, they've only pushed out 2 security updates (2025.4.6 and 2025.4.7). They are now well over a year behind Misskey's development.

If anyone has the time and skills, I hope someone builds a script to migrate Sharkey sites back to Misskey. Since Sharkey is a fork of Misskey (as was FireFish), it should be possible and is a smart precaution.
