<p>Every 4th of July, I'm the event photographer for celebrations in Monterey, CA where I work promoting small business. Nicknamed locally as the "Language Capital of the World" its remarkable diversity is always on display at its annual 4th of July parade and other celebrations. </p><p>Well, that's in a normal year. Unfortunately the mood in Northern California as it has elsewhere in the United States has descended into a pall of fear and anxiety. It was shocking to see the proudly diverse city of Monterey have the whitest and straightest celebration that I never thought I'd see anywhere in my home state much less in my own backyard.</p><p>Uh wait... hold on... Early morning work on a private cloud architecture for Gentoo VM hosts with Rocky 8/9 VMs, then a very pleasant nap, followed by two hours at the pool for the first time in years, real D3 from the sun! </p><p>Afternoon resumed a legacy effort to process RAW slide scans of old "Scala 200" and "Provia 400" photos from the 90s (always shot at 100 ISO, with exposure coefficient adjustment to get deeper contrast). Old phone restoration from RAW slides, this one of Eva in the late 1990s, shot on Fuji Provia 400 reduced to 100 ISO. Still some adjustments needed, then generate a darktable-to-lightroom workflow to process the rest of the ancient times.
