It's been a while, but project #frankenfabric has entered a new phase. Side a and side b are finished, and nearly the same size. Now I have to put together the middle layer. I have this weird linen double gauze in an ugly colour. I took the extremely ugly dress I made with it apart and are going to attempt putting all the bits and pieces back together in a big rectangle. It should be just about enough fabric for my quilt.

Seeing ads for the new HP branded sewing machine are so fucking infuriating
You want to pop culture brand a sewing machine? Give me a Picard 'Make it Sew" machine not an opportunity to give more money to that anti-trans crusader
Finished the hand embroidery — for a person who doesn’t do a lot of hand embroidery, I’m okay with it
Not sure whether/how I’m going to quilt this. I kind of want it to be more squishy when finished, with that karate chop decorator look to the pillow. Quilting gives it too much body, but maybe I can find a softer batting than I normally use
Not sure how I’m even writing this post, because I am literally bouncing up and down in absolute glee at how well this quilt top is coming together. I mean look how perfectly Laika fit next to Tereshkova!
Sally Ride is up next 🚀
I posted about the Quilted Survivance show recently, but this is a different take that provides a lot more historical information about Indigenous Diné quilting culture (plus more pictures)
There was a dreaded Y-seam on the Liu Yang block, but I made it thru 😅
Because the next astronaut has something in her hand, I can’t fully piece Yang’s leg section; it’ll hopefully be finished soon tho
Anticipating this top will be done Sat/Sun time frame 🤞🏻
#InarticulateAstroFirsts quilt top is finished! You might have to click to see it in full - it’s almost 90 inches long
I’ve got a lot of seams still to press flat; we’ve got a storm coming in and the humidity is wreaking havoc on them. But it’s going to be a great wall hanging when quilted!
Here’s the draft pattern of the Women of #StarTrek quilt you all helped me gather names for earlier this year 🙏🏻
The colors aren’t quite right in the picture, but the fabrics will (hopefully) be much more accurate. Some words may change as I work on it, too
It’s going to require so much machine embroidery! But what really scares me are the 3.5” curves on the color bars 😬 Still, I think I’m up for the challenge and I’m really looking forward to starting next year
I just realized the last time I had proper photos of my finished quilts printed was 2012!
I’ve been relying on my blog to keep a record but I’m starting not to trust that’ll always be there
Going to need to print over 162 pics
Triple threat! (1) A graphic novel (2) that’s a mystery about (3) quilting - guess what’s going on my TBR list?

And now the last two crows for #effikaFunnyCrows are done! I really liked making these. Sasha's Quilts on etsy has the pattern for just the crows alone, if you want to make your own.
Next I will square them all up and add the borders. #quilting
If you need to promote a quilt exhibit in a smaller community like #Pasadena (CA), this is the way to write about it - a fairly thorough look at the history of Black quilting in America to ground the viewer before they go
Stories, Traditions & Designs: Spotlighting the African American Quilters of #LosAngeles is at the Pasadena Museum of History through February 22, 2026

Did recently post a different article about this Jeanette Floyd quilt exhibit with more photos, but this one has a longer look at her life story. I love reading about people’s quilting journeys

I made this quilt in 2016 for my grand daughter. She chose the fabric, then when it was made, said she didn't like it!
It has nevertheless been used ...in fact, it has had a tough life. I snaffled it this week to give it sime TLC. I an amazed it only needs a bit of repair to the binding.
I did not know that #JoAnns was a corporate sponsor of Loose Ends, the world wide organization that helps get creative projects finished for families after a loved one passes away. They've apparently struggled a bit since JoAnns closed, but donations of time or money are always appreciated!

La he hecho yo, con mis manitas 🥺
Mi suegra me ha dicho que un botón le quedaría muy bien y me ha ayudado a elegirlo.
