It's been a while, but project #frankenfabric has entered a new phase. Side a and side b are finished, and nearly the same size. Now I have to put together the middle layer. I have this weird linen double gauze in an ugly colour. I took the extremely ugly dress I made with it apart and are going to attempt putting all the bits and pieces back together in a big rectangle. It should be just about enough fabric for my quilt.

I jettisoned the coat I started last week (energy too scarce to waste on a project that doesn’t excite me), and redirected attention to the water-resistant, bonded houndstooth wool, but with a ‘simple’ cape pattern (new look, N6768).

I've got a chunk of beautiful stretch fabric around here (bargain bin plastic, but it was like 2€ for the rest of the bolt, wth) and I'd love to make a skirt out of it
HOWEVER
I'm completely unsure how to work with it. Zig-zag stitches for stretch, I've been told, but what about finishing? I don't have an overlock nor do I want one, but I have no idea how to finish the edges with this stuff.
French seams? Can I do those with a zig-zag, and will it even still be stretchy? Can I bind the edges with the same fabric and a zig-zag? Or should I shell out for a spool of Maraflex or other elastic thread?
Help much appreciated.
Put out an ask last week for computerized machine recommendations/opinions. No responses so asking again 😉 I've read some product reviews but would like personal thoughts ie speed, tensions issues etc before undertaking a physical shopping experience. This will be an auxiliary machine alongside my mechanical one.
1. Needs 1-step button hole
2. Auto needle threader
3. Prefer front load bobbin but understand that most computerized have top load
4. $200 to $800
5. I don't need 85+ stitches as this is for personal use

Once in a blue moon, I open up quilting reddit so I can look at other people's quilts (far easier to do and enjoy than Instagram) and I was reading through some people helping out a novice quilter and got to this comment, which may be of use to those looking at machines:
"Sorry to be so harsh about the Heavy Duty, but I literally believe Singer shouldn't be allowed to sell it, like the government should step in and remove it from the market for false advertising,"

First day of #scanagile26! Here are some hotel selfies of a blouse I sewed recently and am wearing today. Have been hoarding this fabric for a long time until I finally sewed it up. The pattern is loosely based on the Wiksten Tova tunic, which sadly is no longer available. Same pants as yesterday 😲.

The culmination of some verrry slow #sewing, just in time for Halloween witchiness… it’s a brushed finish lambswool/cashmere blend in dark, very subtly flecky charcoal. The pattern is a heavily doctored Burda jacket, with pocket flaps exaggerated into a kind of semi-peplum and, for reasons I’m too fatigued to explain, the ludicrous addition of that inset waistband. I *probably* won’t normally wear it with my trackie bottoms. #tailoring #pockets #iMadeItMyself
