Hi all! If you own or administrate a Sharkey instance, then I've got an important question for you. Over the last two weeks, have you experienced any unexpected crashes or restarts accompanied by a log message reading: [core] The process is going to exit with code 0?

If so, then please reach out! We're investigating a possible bug that none of our development team can reproduce. It would help us greatly if you could answer the poll below, even/especially if you haven't experienced a crash!

I have now found 1070 verified accounts from media organizations in the #Fediverse, but only on #Mastodon, #Flipboard, #Threads, #Bluesky, #Ghost and #Peertube.

Just one is on #Sharkey (👋🏻 @heiseBotti) and none on #Pixelfed, #Lemmy, #Piefed, #Misskey & Co. Are there really none there, or did I miss some?

Hallo meine Lieben!

Ihr habt ja schon gesehen, dass ich es nochmal mit Sharkey und der Aria App versuche. Die App finde ich mittlerweile viel besser, als ich sie in Erinnerung hatte.

Nachdem ich mich erst bei Sharkey.World herumgetummelt habe, ziehe ich vielleicht demnächst hierher um. Wieder mal auf meinen eigenen Sharkey Server: Jürgens Treff 😉.

Ich hoffe auf eure unendliche Geduld.

Und da ich mich kenne, werde ich weiterhin meinen Glitch Server betreiben. Dort bin ich ja unter @[email protected] bekannt (oder berüchtigt 🤔).

Migrated from Sharkey to GoToSocial, because I wanted something more light-weight and less feature-rich (though I do have to say that Sharkey is excellent and has tons of features and control. I highly recommend it to somebody who really wants a lot from their Fediverse software). I probably sent out some unnecessary notifications by mistake while backloading my posts. Sorry about that.

I wrote this python script for doing the actual backloading. It's clunky, doesn't handle many common cases, breaks on mentions, and has tons of little flaws, but it did get the job done.

Important Clarification: Sharkey's develop branch is affected by some of today's vulnerabilities, so instances running on development (pre-release) versions do need to update or apply mitigations!

We still haven't completed patches for the develop branch, but a candidate patch set is being tested as we speak. We'll push the changes as soon as they're done and confirmed to work!

The time has come and I'm beyond excited 😁

We just opened registrations on catodon.rocks.

I know that Catodon created a lot of expectations when Firefish fell apart, and I'm sure many of you were disappointed to see it not going anywhere for a long time. This time I am doing it on my own, so things will happen the way they should have. And, although you can now check it out for youselves, I will say this: I firmly believe that it's better, on every level, than Firefish ever was. I was in both projects, I love them both, but Catodon combines the best features of Firefish and Sharkey, while also being very debloated, being much more comprehensible, and adding actually useful stuff - and I have more plans for the future.

I'd love to hear your feedback on the UX of Catodon, and see how we can improve it further! Let's create the fedi experience we deserve =)
