<p>Even when the ruling class has become reactionary, its ideology remains dominant for a long time. In the first place, it rests on force of habit and tradition; secondly, it is actively imposed by the whole machinery of power (above all, the state) and by the numerous institutions of the ruling class (the Church, the press, and so on), and thus at the same time hinders the spread of new ideas. However, the progressive ideology possesses a decisive advantage in that it reflects the demands of social development. Revolutionary ideas can be forbidden but they cannot be destroyed. <p>I dislike framing <a href="/tags/privilege/" rel="tag">#privilege</a> in racial terms. It reaches those already aware & misses a huge growing reservoir of white privilege... brown people. That the American idea of white has shifted through time says that this is as much cultural as racial.</p><p>Being first generation, I know lots of immigrants. Brown people who weren't born with privilege and come into it later in life, can be the worst because we don't realize that we've joined the disenfranchisers.</p><p>I'm naturally introspective & may have figured it out eventually, but my wife accelerated the process. She's white, aware, & understood the implications and responsibilities of privilege. It's embarrassing, but at the start of our relationship, I was "whiter" than she was.</p><p>Also, the race conflict framing benefits the regime whose supporters are mostly not poor. The ones who are poor won't grasp the sociological implications of something they're not fully enjoying. Those people are potential allies & don't need to understand perfectly to join us.</p><p><a href="/tags/uspol/" rel="tag">#uspol</a></p>

<p>What happened to Renee Nicole Good is not an anomaly or a rare phenomenon. </p><p>The only unusual factor is that she was white.</p><p>A Black man named Keith Porter was shot & killed by ICE on New Year’s Eve.</p><p>Marimar Martinez was shot five times by an ICE officer in Chicago who went on to brag about leaving seven holes in her body. She survived but has a hole in her arm forever.</p><p>Silverio Villegas González was shot dead in Franklin Park Illinois when he panicked and tried to run.</p><p>Then there’s the more than 30 people who’ve died in the camps.</p><p>No accountability. No punishment. </p><p>Keep speaking out.
