Here's what Nazi Musk, Nazi Trump and the rest of this sick Nazi white supremacist science hating sociopathic eugenicist concentration camp loving earth poisoning sadistic medical experimenting administration are desperate to keep you from reading.
PUBLIC PROTEST WORKS (the bigger the better)
Our job is to reach and engage the masses however we can and to throw sand in the gears at every opportunity.
Same as them, but truth telling.
fixed that for you
Wikipedia is a problem for Musk/Trump. Not, as Musk says, because it's "woke." Because it's one of our last reliable tethers to a consensus reality. Therefore, an antidote to disinformation.
It's not making anyone money. It's not enshittified. Of course it's not perfectâit's an endeavor of imperfect cooperating humans. But it needs protection and support.

đ Wikipedia is 24 years old today!
Let's test a near-future scheduled post from #littleFedi with this photo of a magnificently moss-laden Acer macrophyllum I came across on a short walk through the Hoh Rainforest to the banks of the Hoh River.

Y a donc un journaliste du Point qui tranquillou dĂ©cide dâouter un contributeur #Wikipedia dans la presse et Ă son employeur, parce quâil a fait des modifications qui lui plaisent pas https://w.wiki/D6eR
sometimes @wikipedia feels like a mafia, some #DeltaChat users tried to create a Delta Chat entry in Wikipedia (EN) several times over the years and they always rejected it, claiming it is not relevant enough and needing more sources,
when sources were provided someone would comment that "likely that are paid articles" and shit like that
even when Delta Chat page exist for other languages already
then there are things like Beeper https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beeper_(software) with a SINGLE citation to a paid-walled article
what gives???
please if some of you have experience contributing to Wikipedia (and I guess some secret connections or being known contributor is needed as well) consider creating a Delta Chat entry
it is really unfair that at this time and age any random messenger is in Wikipedia but Delta Chat

On this day in 2000, Nupedia, a multi-language online encyclopedia, and predecessor of Wikipedia, was launched.
"Unlike Wikipedia, Nupedia was not a wiki; it was instead characterized by an extensive peer-review process, designed to make its articles of a quality comparable to that of professional encyclopedias."
Newsletter: The real threat isn't AI using open knowledge â it's AI companies killing the projects that make knowledge free. The future of free and open access isn't saying âwait, not like thatâ â itâs saying "yes, like that, but under fair termsâ.

65% of Wikimedia's most expensive traffic comes from bots.
"Since January 2024, we have seen the bandwidth used for downloading multimedia content grow by 50%. This increase is not coming from human readers, but largely from automated programs that scrape the Wikimedia Commons image catalog of openly licensed images to feed images to AI models."

Something I wish journalists understood better: anyone can nominate an article for deletion on Wikipedia, which kicks off a week-long discussion â even if the article is perfectly acceptable and will ultimately be kept. This does not mean "Wikipedia is trying to delete X!!"
Want to be able to start micro-editing on Wikipedia in a few minutes â and know why you could be very glad you did? Then my new post @PLOS is just what you need!
Summarising for the purpose of pinning:
If there is a #Wikipedia article about you (in any language) which has an unflattering photo of you, or if it doesn't have a photo of you at all, you can fix this! The quickest solution is to take a good photo of yourself â copyright of photos belongs to the photographer, so a selfie simplifies the process. You can also use a photo that someone else has taken if it has an appropriate licence.
Photos and media files are uploaded to #WikimediaCommons so they can be used in any Wikipedia or other #Wikimedia project. All text and media content on Wikimedia projects must have a public domain or free content licence. We prefer CC-BY-SA and CC0. These licences are irrevocable and cannot restrict where or how they are used.

If you don't have a Wikipedia/Wikimedia account, you can post a photo here on the fediverse and a Wikipedian can upload it for you. Post the photo along with the licence declaration in the same post (Mastodon, GoToSocial, etc) or in the caption (Pixelfed).
