I wonder what the situation is with #Mastodon apps for #Android these days. At one point, the official app was very bare bones, and folks recommended using #Moshidon or #Megalodon for better access to the full Mastodon experience. Is it the same still?
I have been using Moshidon for a while now, and I used to run Tusky. Having checked the last update, Moshidon got updated last summer, the official app a few days ago, and Tusky in September.
It's such a shame we've ended up with a smartphone OS duopoly. It could've been so much better, sigh.

It’s worth repeating. Android is not a viable base for an independent or even just collaborative operating system. Android is Google and only Google’s project.
If you want to see an actually transparent, international, and collaborative system on phones, support @postmarketOS

Tethering hasn't been turned on in like a WEEK, and the only USB I've plugged into is a charger via a data blocker cable.
#Android, you are CRAY CRAY!

🥳 We've just released version 1.2.0 of the official #PeerTube app!
This version includes OpenID authentication and search functionality on the platform screen.
We've also refactored various parts of the app to enhance stability and resolve certain issues. 🐛
Check out the full changelog here: https://framagit.org/framasoft/peertube/mobile-application/-/releases/v1.2.0.
The update is already available on the Apple Store and Google Play. The F-Droid version will be available as soon as possible!
Enjoyyyyy! 😁

This is important. We already have a basic duopoly in mobile operating systems, now Google is trying to lock down their platform even more. Nobody benefits from this other than Google's shareholders.
Whether you are a device owner, a developer, or a public institution, this affects you and should matter to you.
Everyone can meaningfully help to push back.

so, am testing the #quoot or #quotepost feature in the app and it’s working.
been using it by opening posts in a browser, so it’s nice that i can do it directly from the #android app. i almost exclusively toot from my tablet these days.
the thing is… this isn’t a quoted post à la Twitter.
all we had to do was to copy & paste a link to the tweet for it to appear embedded with the javascript & html magic of the Oembed protocol.
what @MastodonEngineering created here is something else… 🧵

New, from me: Who Operates the Badbox 2.0 Botnet?
The cybercriminals in control of Kimwolf -- a disruptive botnet that has infected more than 2 million devices -- recently shared a screenshot indicating they'd compromised the control panel for Badbox 2.0, a vast China-based botnet powered by malicious software that comes pre-installed on many Android TV streaming boxes. Both the FBI and Google say they are hunting for the people behind Badbox 2.0, and thanks to bragging by the Kimwolf botmasters we may now have a much clearer idea about that.

The fediverse now has a mobile-first personal server called Holos by @HolosSocial (via @apps). It's a full ActivityPub server that runs on your Android device (iOS coming soon). You own your identity with a custom domain and your followers live on your device.
Project URL: https://holos.social
Key features:
✅ Your server on your phone – Your identity, keys, and followers live on your device, not a giant shared server.
✅ Custom domain identity – Permanently own your handle (@[email protected]) and take it anywhere.
✅ True E2EE for DMs – Real end-to-end encryption for private conversations, a major privacy upgrade.
✅ Relay-based connectivity – Connects to the wider fediverse via relays, so a personal server is practical on mobile.
Open source, privacy-focused, and built to give you real ownership in the fediverse. The Android version is available now.
