A finger cajon nearing completion, my latest mini-project.

The standard cajon is a fairly large box-shaped instrument originated by African slaves in Peru who were denied traditional drums & resorted to shipping crates to get rhythmic. One sits on top and slaps, taps, etc. – most have snare drum wire mounted within for added sonic brightness & texture.

Handmade from 1/4" pine, bamboo mini-skewers & wood glue.

A magnifying glass, green arc welding goggles, craft knife, scissors, etc., surround a small wooden box / mini-cajon slightly longer and narrower than a tall man's hand adorned with taped-on paper stencil letters for some text to be applied via sunlight. The soundboard has already been done, a somewhat jumbled dual-column tower of letters spelling out the word MONSTER.

After 15 months of hard work, my dad has finished this impressive model of Minas Tirith! It is 1.4 m high and entirely hand-made out of wood. One of the most time-consuming parts was manually engraving the bricks on all walls and buildings, but this was key to properly convey the huge size of the city. Une table posée contre un mur. Sur le mur, 3 broderies sont exposées. Il s'agit de 3 dragons colorés brodés dans un style médiéval. Les points de broderie utilisés créent des textures différentes sur chaque partie des dragons.
Le 1er est de profil, les ailes en l'air et la tête dressée, sa queue est enroulée de sorte à former un bretzel.
Le 2eme est de profil dans une posture d'attaque.
Le 3eme a le corps et la tête imprimés en aplat d'encre dorée et les contours, les ailes et quelques détails sont brodés aux fils vert foncé et rouge.
Sur la table il y a un livre avec des photos de broderies médiévales, un carnet de note, des crayons de couleur, un gobelet et des échevettes.

My wife took a three-day course where everyone embroidered family photographs onto heirloom textiles. She's been working on her piece for two years and now there's an exhibition. About 40 pieces. ❤️

Llevo unos meses haciendo un diorama de Hollow Knight dentro de una nuez en mis ratos libres. Yo misma he lijado la nuez para poner la bisagra y el cierre. He modelado con arcilla el caballero, la larva, la brújula y la base y lo he pintado todo. Estoy muy contenta con cómo ha quedado, la verdad.

A pal asked if I could turn a two-bottle LCBO gift box into a mini-cajon.

The results were pleasing.

I bought a snare wire for $20, a strip of cedar for the sound board, and some 3/8 quarter round to reinforce the box.

The thin plywood bottle separator became the snare wire anchor, adjustable for front- or side-slap activation. The sound board itself can be slid open or closed for a crisp or muted snap. The sound hole blank decorates the top.

Customer happy.

View of snare wire through the sound hole. The plywood snare wire mount has been decorated with my trademark magnifying glass branded ampersand symbol (representing the offbeat nature of my life). The box and holder have both been stained 'espresso' - a dark hue which has caught the grain and imperfections nicely while leaving the smooth bits quite pale.
