I still practice something I learned from a PC Mag column around 1990:
If it fits, put your entire email message in the subject line, and leave the letter space empty.
This cannot be replaced with a chat service, because they don't have a useful paper trail and archiving system.

A site and userbase that all pridefully stand on the soapbox that their site is the end-all-be-all in free speech and lack of #censorship.
buuuuut.
several boards have baked-in trigger words, some of them over a decade old that will ban or deny your threads or comments by default
no #VPN use or you'll be banned for trying(if their detection can tell)
you have to wait 300 seconds if the system doesn't have a cookie for you to post at thread, and 200 to post a comment, and sometimes it resets for no reason.
unless you pay hard, earned currency for it in the name of cash or #crypto
and give an #email address that likely connects to your real identity
If I ever get sick of Mastodon, Lemmy and Pixelfed, there's one thing I can do that I can't do on 4chan,
at least I can get all of my money back.
all $0 of it.

Mozilla is building Thundermail as a new open source webmail project.
The service that handles onboarding and settings is called thunderbird-accounts. The JMAP webmail client is Stormbox. There are some related services, Send for large-file sending and Appointment for scheduling appts by email.
Thunderbird from iOS is being built from scratch as well.
