New #Introduction post!

Hello I'm Noelle! I'm a blogger and reader who also plays musical instruments (guitar, keyboard) and takes photos. I believe that Meta and Google are not only killing the planet through their data centers but also democracy through the division their products have created. They are also taking over our lives by how much time we spend a day with their products (email, social media, YouTube).

#Mastodon #fediverse #Google #Meta #blogger #reader #books #photographer

Reposting my #introduction, since I'm seeing a lot of fresh faces recently. I'm an associate professor at UMass Amherst, where I teach about #journalism and #MediaIndustries.
Fine, a belated #introduction. Still searching for my people here. Encountering too many memes. I like levity in my timeline, but seldom like that. Where are the shitposters? The wise-crackers? The dry wits?

Interested in #film / #movies, #books (working on a project to get everything on my shelves read), #blogging, #vlogging, #birding, and #walking (boring).

Raised in #Iowa, live in #Chicago. Would love to find other folks here, but also interested in those in far-flung locales.

So I'm a few days late, but I found out that it's customary to write an #Introduction, and so here it is <3

Hi! I'm Liz, a #trans woman who has recently entered her 40's. I've been out and open since October, 2021, and at this point feel like a #queer elder.

I'm a Sr. (Software) Engineering Manager with almost 20 years of experience in software development. I also have a few years in there as a Senior Product Manager, but my passion definitely lies on the engineering side of things.

I've been involved in Olympic #fencing for almost 30 years in some capacity, and for the last several I have been an armorer at collegiate, (US) national, and international events.

I am here on Mastodon after deciding to leave anything Meta behind, and realizing that BlueSky isn't the safe haven that it purports to be. I hope all of the Threads and Twitter users that ended up there don't get burned, but I'm not taking my chances with that.

Things I am likely to post about: Trans and other LGBTQIA2S+ rights, software development, vintage/retro gaming and computing, Olympic fencing and my cat.

#Introduction

After many months of study and copious notes as an un-logged lurker, I have determined that the best way to connect broadly with the Fedi audience is to talk about sports.

Basketball saved my life. It’s how I rehabilitated my mind-body connection after developing Complex Regional Pain Syndrome a decade or so ago in my early twenties (on top of my already extant Fibromyalgia). The worst part about CRPS is that it scrambles the way our brains interpret pain so that extreme pain (“hello, old friend”), which in a healthy system is a signal to stop or change behavior, can also or simultaneously be a signal that we need to move more. I spend extraordinary mental energy distinguishing, poorly, between the two. What often happens is that it paralyzes (literally – this is how people lose limbs) not the affected limbs themselves (my arms, more recently my legs) but the part of your brain that processes the desire, need, or ability to move them. If you stop moving them for long enough, you lose the limb. I spent about five years with a type of ‘mental paralysis’ until I started dribbling a basketball and shooting free throws (with an un-housed man in his 70s who taught me to play like Pete Maravich; I miss you Dale).

Edited to add hashtags: #autism #crps #fibromyalgia #disability
1/

My previous intro post was a few years old, so behold, new intro post:

Mike. Live in the Seattle area having grown up in the UK as a full blown British. Have a wife (incredible), child (boy), and three dogs (golden retriver/cream retriver/fuck knows).

I work in information security, something I have done for about 20 years. By day I run corporate security, enterprise IT and various other bits and pieces for an EV charging startup. I am big into EV's and currently drive one that is not a Tesla. I want an electric motorbike, so if anyone has a spare one please send it.

I also have a company of my own, Secure Being (https://securebeing.com), which does pen testing and digital forensic work - it's my way of staying super hands on while still doing the management bits on the career path.

I have written books about information security things. Five of them. Two are non-fiction textbooks, and three are fiction based on real world #infosec things. Check out https://infosecdiaries.com and your local bookstore to find them, just search for my name. I have been trying to write more stuff, but always seem to find myself distracted by other things, such as work. linktr.ee/secureowl has some mini stories I've written.

I love radio and everything RF. I have lots of antennas and various scanners and radios on my desk. I love intercepting and decoding things, like digital radio protocols.

I am a big aviation nerd. I always wanted to be a commercial pilot. I gained my private pilots license in the UK at 17, all self funded by my employment at the local Safeway/Morrisons store. I did the sim test and commercial assessments, but for some reason, at 18, I was unable to find the £100k needed to complete the commercial training, so I did computers. But do not worry, because those computers and love of aviation and radio/RF combined, and I run a project called ACARS Drama. https://acarsdrama.com has all the details.

I play guitar and am a big guitar/audio nerd as well. I record music under the moniker Operation: Anxiety, https://operationanxiety.com - the music is on all the normal places.

Finally, I am a massive fan of motorsport. I believe I have watched every F1 race for the last 30 years, maybe 25. I also follow F2, FE, Indycar and MotoGP closely. I average around 18 hours of Le Mans 24 hour racing watching per year.

So there you have it. If you are looking for a thought leader on the topics mentioned above, you've come to the wrong place - because this is where I shitpost, and shitposting is cheap therapy.

#infosec #dfir #pentesting #acars #vdlm2 #sdr #rf #f1 #seattle #introduction

#neuhier #introduction #introduktion
Enjoy!

Hey all! My name is Tyler. I want to share a little #introduction post. It's so nice to be here! My interests include #airQuality #buildings #community #construction #darkSkies #design #historicPreservation #history #placemaking #stainedGlass and more. Can you recommend accounts to follow? In any case I've heard good things about Mastodon and the fediverse so I'm looking forward to connecting with folks.

In an effort to keep my Mastodon profile a bit cleaner and not overloaded with a bunch of pinned old posts that people have to scroll through to see my recent activity, I decided to copy them over to PreemChrome, unpin those posts from my profile here, and now I will just pin this one to my profile.

So, for anybody looking for my #introduction posts or to learn more about me, head to PreemChrome and you can learn more!

https://preemchro.me/About/masto-pinned-posts

I've heard chatter over the last couple of weeks about profiles with too many pinned posts, and I've got PreemChrome, so I figured why not clean things up and put it to good use? This way I don't have to keep those old posts hanging around on the off-chance that someone visits my profile. And hey, maybe they'll find some more interesting stuff on PreemChrome that floats their boat, eh? Can't hurt!
