<p>Do any moots know someone who we might be able to consult about restructuring a mid-size FOSS project? Essentially to migrate from a BDFL model to a more flat-structured democratic organisation.</p><p>We are discussing how to restructure <a href="/tags/postmarketos/" rel="tag">#postmarketOS</a> so that it can continue to scale up and be a truly community-run project.</p><p>We have some idea of how co-ops like Igalia do this, but we have a lot of differences (like being largely volunteer run and having very different goals) which leave us with a lot of unknowns.</p><p>To give an example of the kind of structure we&#x27;re thinking of (by no means final, there hasn&#x27;t been any broad agreement on a new structure yet):</p><p>We have the relevant pieces in place to form an assembly (everyone listed on <a href="https://postmarketos.org/team/" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>postmarketos.org/team/</a> ) which could then democratically form teams and delegate responsibilities to them (e.g. finance/budget, technical policy-making, maintainers for various OS components).</p><p>The assembly would then also be responsible for deciding on focus areas and long term goals for the project (e.g. improving reliability, building a production-ready immutable version of the distro)</p><p>We could then form working groups to enable cross-team collaboration to move towards our specific goals.</p><p>Currently we lack a lot of understanding of the potential implications of something like this, how we can ensure the project doesn&#x27;t get hijacked, that we don&#x27;t drift too far from our mission statement, etc etc...</p><p>If you have a background in sociology and/or relevant experience from other projects then I would love to reach out and be able to discuss this in more detail!</p><p><a href="/tags/decentralization/" rel="tag">#decentralization</a> <a href="/tags/opensource/" rel="tag">#opensource</a> <a href="/tags/freesoftware/" rel="tag">#freesoftware</a> <a href="/tags/foss/" rel="tag">#foss</a></p>

<p>I&#x27;ve been looking for a clean, <a href="/tags/noai/" rel="tag">#NoAI</a> Markdown editor to replace Logseq. Logseq is great but has a lot of bloat that I don&#x27;t need for simple writing (like my scripts). <p>There was a pretty critical news segment by Nieuwsuur about <span class="h-card"><a href="https://social.schleswig-holstein.de/@landesregierung" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>landesregierung</span></a></span> &#x27;s move to open source alternatives. It shows a Higher Court user having issues with LibreOffice vs Microsoft Office, and using a scanner workaround. Also the email migration didn&#x27;t go without issue.</p><p>To someone who has done this migration before; jup sounds familiar. But it&#x27;s also something that can be solved. <p>Vim v9.2 is released. There are many magnífico features I look forward to use. VIM is a Swiss Army Knife for editing Source Code &amp; text.</p><p>The features are too many to mention, no really I don&#x27;t know them all; NOBODY DOES!<br>Just like with the GiMP I know the functions I need and learn more when the requirement arizes. VIM has an extensive help system which Bram Molenaar et all developed over the decades that VIM exists.</p><p>History<br>VIM was initially coded on the Amiga computer systems of which I own an A4000T with a Cyberstorm 060 and Max Ram, with RTG card (Picasso 96), a A1200 vanilla with a stock HDD &amp; an A500 with stock RAM (chip and fast) and 3 FDD 2x 3.5&quot; 1x 5 1/4&quot;</p><p>Bram wrote VIM in such a way that it runs on the A500 with just 512kB RAM! </p><p>There are people who love EMACS. To them I say<br> <br>&lt;flame bait&gt;<br>EMACS can&#x27;t hold a candle to VIM<br>&lt;/flame bait&gt;</p><p>Of course that is just humour. <p>Say I just came up with something really cool that&#x27;s a library and can be useful to folks. In pre-AI times, I&#x27;d slap a GPL on it and release it as an open repo. </p><p>Now, today, how can I make it available in a way that won&#x27;t get instantly sucked into training data?</p><p>Secondly (and more importantly), how can I make sure people bring their questions to me, so the project can evolve?
