Buffleheads (Bucephala albeola) are cute but they dive ''all the time'' and you end up with a lot of photos of the sea. 😆 This is the female.

Enter the Dragon 🐉🥋

Here it is – my new JWST image of the young protostellar outflow system in Cassiopeia called HH288, aka The Dragon Jet.

We discovered it in the 1990s & the NASA/ESA/CSA JWST reveals stunning new detail, including several new jets crossing the main dragon 🙂👍

An image of a young protostellar outflow called HH288 in space, as seen with JWST. Much of the background is dark black and blue, with many stars sprinkled across with different colours and brightnesses, many showing the classic eight-pointed shape that comes from the JWST optics. The Dragon Jet itself is a swath of red, orange, and yellow emission spread horizontally across the image, with at least two crossing flows. The main flow resembles a Chinese dragon, hence the name.

An abandoned former military base in East Germany

After 1945, Soviet forces converted the old German base into a closed military town. By the 1970s, around 75,000 soldiers and families lived here. It was abandoned in the mid-1990s.

Many relics of the Soviet occupation remain. A statue of Lenin stands near the entrance. There is also a large theatre, a decaying swimming pool and a ballroom. Murals decorate walls and corridors.

From the backlog from last October: I did the Old City Hall station tour. The tour is only open to members of the NY Transit Museum. But the free way to see it is to take the 6 train and stay on the train past Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station; there the train will go through the Old City Hall station in a loop to turn around. #nyc #subway #trains #trainstation #architecture #photography #darktable #railfan

On Exoplanet 09774 these seeds have gained the name of Walking Apples. Plants don’t walk, (well, except for Triffids) but these ones do, sort of. Once dropped from the branch, the ‘legs’ move the seed along the soil upwards of 10 meters. There are no birds to spread the seed on this planet, which is probably why they walk. The seeds mostly trundle along at night, although we don’t know why at night, or how they know it’s night, although the nights do normally last 37 earth hours.
