Een foto uit de serie April Fool uit 2020. Bij de kassa van een supermarkt staat Erwin Olaf als een clown met een wit puntmuts en een wit gezicht en witte handschoenen in een zwarte jas. Hij kijkt wezenloos voor zich en ook de kassamedewerker heeft een wit gezicht en een witte puntmuts op. Die kijkt ook lang Erwin Olaf naar de ingang. De supermarkt lijkt te zijn leeggeroofd. Dit beeld appelleert aan onze welvaart. Het benadrukt het besef dat wij in een rijk land wonen waar altijd alles te koop is. De kleur van de foto is vrij neutraal. Hierdoor wordt de sfeer nog extra bedompt.

La fotografía en blanco y negro muestra la portada plateresca de la Iglesia de Santa María en Alarcón (Cuenca), un magnífico ejemplo de la transición entre el gótico tardío y el Renacimiento español del siglo XVI.

El encuadre está tomado frontalmente desde el interior de un atrio o pórtico abovedado, cuyo techo de crucería o casetones enmarca la parte superior de la imagen y dirige la mirada hacia la portada. La puerta de acceso al templo, de madera oscura maciza con remaches metálicos visibles, ocupa el centro inferior de la composición bajo un gran arco de medio punto profusamente decorado.

La portada se organiza en varios cuerpos horizontales superpuestos, cargados de ornamentación típica del plateresco:
• El arco de entrada está decorado con una serie de medallones circulares con relieves de ángeles y motivos vegetales.
• A ambos lados, columnas abalaustradas y pilastras de capiteles corintios enmarcan el vano, alternando con hornacinas veneras (con forma de concha) vacías.
• El cuerpo superior presenta un frontón triangular flanqueado por pináculos, con una hornacina central en forma de venera y medallones con bustos o figuras esculpidas a los lados.
• En los laterales altos aparecen dos grandes escudos heráldicos sostenidos por figuras, elementos habituales en las portadas nobiliarias o religiosas de la época para señalar patronazgo o linaje.

Al haber sido tomada por la tarde, la luz incide de forma rasante desde uno de los laterales, generando un fuerte contraste entre las zonas iluminadas de la piedra tallada y las sombras profundas que se acumulan en los huecos de las hornacinas y en el hueco de la puerta, que aparece casi completamente en negro. Este contraste acentúa el volumen y la textura erosionada de la piedra caliza, desgastada por siglos de exposición, y refuerza el carácter dramático propio del blanco y negro, resaltando la profundidad y el relieve escultórico frente a la planitud que tendría con luz cenital.
