![The image is a black and white photograph depicting an intimate family moment. In the foreground, there's a man sitting on what appears to be church pews, cradling a baby wrapped in a cloth with floral patterns over his lap. Beside him sits another child wearing striped pajamas, attentively looking towards someone outside of the frame. The setting suggests they are inside a religious building, as indicated by the design and materials visible around them.
In the background to the right, there is an out-of-focus figure that seems like part of this family group but cannot be clearly identified due to lack of focus on their face or body shape.
The photograph captures a candid snapshot of everyday life with attention drawn primarily towards the seated man's interaction with his children. The overall mood conveyed by the image is one of quiet domesticity and familial closeness, set against an environment that suggests community gatherings such as church services were common social settings for families during this time period in Mexico.
The photograph carries historical significance, capturing a slice of life from mid-20th century urban environments, specifically within Mexican culture. It's likely taken by Ed van der Elsken given the reference provided, who is known for his street photography and depiction of everyday scenes with an artistic touch that captures both formali [...]](/proxy/post_attachment/404453/576599d1d4.jpeg "The image is a black and white photograph depicting an intimate family moment. OM SYSTEM Olympus E-M10 Mark I...
Sometimes I’m not sure. Sometimes I feel less confident in my work, that I feel things aren’t quite up to par. Lately, that’s been the reason I haven’t been posting new art but for sporadically. I’m dissatisfied with my concert photography, and I’m dissatisfied with my urban photography. I think I’m in a slump.
But this is the picture I took lately that I dislike the least. Sure, the power lines obscure the buildings, but there’s lots of little lines to follow, elements and textures moving around in the image. It’s an image people participate in, that people built.
And I suppose the juxtaposition between the closer and smaller industrial area at the front, and the monolithic city with the glow in the back, is nice.
Sorry I’ve gone a bit without submitting work. I will try to do better.
