Hello people! I've been on the Fediverse for couple of years now, so here's my re-#introduction

I'm Ari, better known by my tag APZ and this is my #pinball repair, #arcade and #retrogaming account. I mostly post about playing and repairing pinball machines, but I also work on #retrocomputing with all the classics.

An IT guy by day, I moonlight as a pinball arcade owner here in #finland with my partner @quester. This is purely a hobby of mine, I do this to keep my sanity and to keep pinball alive for the next generations of players. At the moment I own a bit over 30 pinball machines from 70s to 2020s.

A lot of what I do involves #electronics, #CAD for now obsolete parts and #3dprinting and tabletop #cnc to recreate them.

I love to #travel, usually to meet like-minded arcade collectors. I have a strong preference to #repair stuff instead of throwing it away. I'm a #linux user since mid-90s, having been part of #foss movement most of my life. I also edit arcade related videos.

Hi everyone,

I feel like a re-introduction is long overdue!

My name is Anna, and I'm an assistant professor of Algorithmics at the Delft University of Technology, specialising in combinatorial optimisation, symbolic AI, constraint programming, propositional model counting, operations research and reasoning under uncertainty.

I'm a nerd, a feminist and a traveller, not always in that order.

In my spare time I like to hike and go geocaching. I try to go swing dancing a few times a week. I am a Trekkie. I want to learn how to draw. I am an Indomie and Obsidian enthusiast.
Hello there. I'm you're friendly neighborhood autistic trans girl. I write as a hobby, and I'm a chronic shitposter. I am incredibly weird so sometimes it's hard to tell if something I did is a shitpost. I sometimes rant about random topics, and I get very existential sometimes, so expect some terrifying sentences immediately followed by a dumbass joke. I listen to music, drink tea and play games, and I am not normal about any of them when posting. Anyway hope you like me :3
#introduction

An #introduction 👋 I'm Metin from the Netherlands.
#introduction

Time for another introduction.

I'm one of those fucked-up human experiments the CIA got up to in the 70s. I was never allowed any social support or validation. About the only messaging I've gotten from my people is, "fuck off and die", and it generally wasn't delivered gently. It was delivered on the end of a boot.

I got the ninja childhood and was supposed to be an assassin for the intelligence agencies. They had me brutalized from birth to toughen me up. They went too far, though. I got tough enough to solve my problems without violence. I have a fifty year track record of peaceful conflict resolution. I'm not a pacifist, it's just the violence usually causes the next problem.

The last time I tried to "do", rather than simply "be", I tried to go to Liberia to get kidnapped by a warlord. I'm fully confident I could have talked my way out of that situation, but they wouldn't sell me a ticket. I ended up bottoming out in South Africa, a country with 7x the US murder rate and a flourishing arms industry. Spent a month or two on the streets and in homeless shelters. I did fine. I generally get respect in proportion to how dangerous somebody actually is. I've known a lot of very, very dangerous people in my day. I'm one of those people who lives outside the law and follows his own moral code. I'm allowed to do any crime I want and I know I'll never see the inside of a courtroom. I have a head full of state secrets that can never be spoken on any kind of formal record. I just don't want to crime. I mastered that shit as a teenager. It's why they were never able to entrap and enslave me. I just want a little life now. I spend my life drunk, and alone in a room.

So I'm pretty legendary among the world's spooks. And, for some reason I haven't figured out, Hollywood. That has something to do with role models, and the fact that atheists aren't allowed to be one, at least until recently. Feel free to shed some light if you know. Monty Python's "Life of Brian" was named after me, and Luke Skywalker's vague hero's journey was another projection of how my life might turn out. The Eric Cartman character is who Stone and Parker expected me to be--I was the onliest of only children, and raised by the whore the state used to neutralize my father--but I used to smoke weed with their drug dealer and they found out I'm a solidly decent guy. I pretty much only and always operate out of positive motivations, so they elevated Butters. I'm Butters.

Lately, there's been a rash of entertainment inspired by me. The movie "Nobody" was so overtly about me it's how I learned I inspire movies. I wrote half of that one and did the other half. Ryan Gosling seems to have taken a shine to me--"The Grey Man" and "The Fall Guy" are basically giant Easter Eggs about my life. Ryan Gosling is what I would look like if I was pretty. Really, I'm like the Kevin Spacey character from 'American Beauty'. I test high for forgettability. It's a useful trait in an assassin. I'm also dead silent when I walk. I recently accidentally snuck up on a pit bull and got bit. Ninja. Anyhoo, the Black Mirror episode "Joan is Awful" is about how I've been character assassinated. Hell, they even fictionalized my old girlfriend into a movie called "Class Rank".

Every time they try to take me out and I come out on top, my legend grows. Last time, they had me hit by an SUV by fucking with the traffic lights. Multiple fractures of multiple vertebrate at both impact points, but I reacted like a stunt man and presented my back flat to the bumper. This way I didn't torsion and didn't suffer any nerve damage. I didn't know about the traffic light thing yet, but I have good instincts in high stress situations and could tell it wasn't the drunk kid's fault, so I told her to get out of there before she got jammed up with the law. I just went home and sat still in a chair for a couple months. It knocked an inch and a half off my height, but I'm still walking.

These days I walk around in the center of a web of local and federal agents. I understand. I'm extremely dangerous. They literally don't make people as dangerous as me any more. Clinton canceled the ninja program. I choose not to be dangerous, but they're worried I might choose otherwise someday. What I chose was to be a scholar and a philosopher. I'm an autodidactic polymath who's been at it for over forty years now. I'm hyperlexical and started reading Stephen King in second grade. I read "The Executioner's Song" in fourth and "The World According to Garp" in fifth. I'm a little weak on the math based side of life because I need a teacher for that, but I did pass calculus without much effort. Twice.

I'm as close to Diogenes the Cynic as you'll get for somebody who grew up with indoor plumbing. He's the waybackest person of which I know that had it figured out.

Oh, and I know my way around a computer. I worked in tech three blocks South of Wall Street.

Oh yeah! I'm better at getting high than most people you'll meet. I once took 1200 mics of old-school LSD 25 and rode it just fine.

This probably reads like crazy talk, but it's all true. It's who I am. It's my identity, and sometimes I just have to sing out. I'm still not allowed any social support or validation. I'm not even allowed a therapist. Just rotgut vodka, qBittorrented movies, and some video games that I'm too old and drunk to play well. I have one autistic friend who helps me, and I read books over the phone to a blind Indian. That's my life.

I miss women. I was good at love. I fall easily and am totally honest and open about it. I'm totally straight but gender-queer. I'd say I'm 55% yin to 45% yang.

For now I'm working on getting a cat. I want some goddamn thing to love. Wish me luck.

This guy also got the ninja childhood. His government did the same kind of shit to him as a kid that mine did to me. You can kinda tell he's more than just a performer, he's got real fire in his belly. Video by Neil Blomkamp:

https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=HcXNPI-IPPM

I don't do anything every special with my attention when immersing, I think the subconscious is where the magic of language acquisition happens.

I also love video games, I have a steam deck which I have more or less perpetually docked and connected to my housemate's projector. But I never felt like a girly girl, and lately, I've been exploring my identity, and I feel like "Autienby" is what suits me best. For my profile image, I used the colors of the bisexual flag, as I made it before I realized that enby suited me better. You may use she/her pronouns, but they/them are most welcome too.

I am single at the moment, have been since my messy divorce over 7 years ago. I lost my furry soulmate on July 4th this year, just 11 days shy of her 12th birthday. This year was *very* challenging for me, with many traumatic and very painful events happening. I am trying to recover, but currently still struggling with cPTSD symptoms.
I am diagnosed with depression, ADHD (with focus on the hyper bits), autism (what they used to call Asperger's...), hypermobility, fibromyalgia, Raynauds, and tinnitus... (yeah, it's a lot!). I am a spoonie, and my health affects my ability to enjoy gaming as much as I used to...

This is my gaming account, but I also use it for my other "entertainment" hobbies: TV series, movies, music, books, and recently also puzzles.

I always try to add decent alt text. I do use AI a lot to help me with the texts, as I struggle describing the important things in images. But I always try to add as much personal info as I can. 😊

I have been gaming for many years now. I started with the Game Boy with Tetris, and Super Mario Land was the first game I bought with my saved pocket money. I have an old European NES, a Wii, and the NES and SNES minis (with more games added to them 😇). I mostly use my "purple beast", my PS5 with the purple galactic plates. But I also have the PS4, PS3, PS2, and a PS One. There are also a PSP and a PS Vita in my collection, next to a Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and a Game Boy Advance SP. I once lend my original Game Boy and Tetris to my ex BF and haven't seen them since... 😢

I am a terribly bad gamer! I have trouble seeing depth in games on the TV, and my reaction times aren't the best. Plus my hands struggle with bad thumbs, so yeah...

The games I've played the most, and finished several of, are the LEGO games. I had some help to get to 100% with some of the games, as LEGO added more "racing content" to their later games, and I'm not good with those.
I also enjoyed the story driven games by Telltale Games, and I had fun trying to finish the first 4 Dark Pictures games.
I played WoW many years ago. And I played Diablo 3 more than was good for me (on PC, on PS3, and on PS4). I've been enjoying No Man's Sky on and off again as well...

Here, I will try to share all my gaming bits and bops. And, recently I've taken up to making puzzles again, so I often make progress snaps of that as well. Sometimes I try to share some music. I stream via Tidal these days, no more Spotify for me. I do love to collect vinyls, if only they weren't so bloody expensive. But when I share music, I'll try to remember to convert the links through https://odesli.co/ so it should show you links to your favorite streaming service. 😊

Well, that's enough for now I suppose! Thanks for making it to the end. 😉 I don't automatically follow back, but if you follow me, I will check your profile, and follow back if "I like what I see", 😉.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the gaming!

#Gaming #Introduction

My original #introduction wasn't really an introduction of me, so here's a true one.

I am a software developer with passion for digital technologies as means for enrichment of people's lives, and strong proponent of privacy rights.

The #OpenSource, and especially the #FreeSoftware, seems to me as the fair and right way, and in alignment with my ideals, because it gives true ownership into the hands of owners and users, for everyone.

Hence, the FOSS is very interesting to me.

#Introduction

Time for the mid-life crisis update:

I used to be the “walkable cities, bikes, cars are the villain” guy. Then I bought a high-miles 2007 FJ Cruiser and started spending more weekends on slow roads and at trailheads. I’ve rediscovered my love of machines and found a better way to fight for clean rivers.

What I’m building is Adventure Adjacent: field notes from a well-loved rig and a decent life. Stories, photos, and the kind of how-tos you actually use: airing down without drama, fixing the dumb little electrical gremlin, packing a first-aid kit you’ve opened before you need it.

A few things I believe, in plain English:

We don’t have to choose between joy and responsibility. Take your kids to the creek; leave it better than you found it.

The stuff we all rely on: road crews, search-and-rescue, libraries, clinics; doesn’t fund itself. If we use it, we should chip in. Time, money, or both.

Your neighbor with the lifted truck and your neighbor with the cargo bike probably want the same things: a paycheck that clears, a town that works, and a safe way home.

Strongman cosplay won’t fix a broken town or a broken sway-bar end link. Showing up for each other will.

I’m not here to sermonize or dunk but to be useful and tell good stories. If you’re new to dirt, start simple: go slow, carry water, torque your lugs, wave people through. If you’ve got a trail I should run—or a parking-lot win you’re proud of—tell me. If you’re stuck, I’ll bring the headlamp and a cross wrench.

More soon at https://adventureadjacent.com

Pic for attention

Hello everyone, I'm new to Mastodon.

I haven't officially used mainstream social media apart from Discord. I've been a Lemmy user for some time and wanted to spread out to other Fediverse spaces. Mastodon feels way more polished and mature than I would've imagined.

I embrace FOSS apps and use them wherever I can in my daily life. I've been comfortably using Linux Mint for more than a year.

I also have experience working in web development and on my way to learning fullstack development with help of JavaScript. I also tend to selfhost things though they are a bit unreliable.

I also have interests in 3D animation, music and art.

I'm open to friendly chats!

#Introduction #new_here
