Inspired by the absolutely incredible photos of #fungi 🍄 posted by the ridiculously talented @arcturus recently, I took a shot when I ran into a shocking profusion of #mushrooms on my hike a couple of days ago. Alas, my very first #FungiFriday will also have to be a #shittember post. Even though I took dozens of photos, I got nothing I was hoping for. In fact (and I'll blame this on my exhaustion, the waning light, and my lack of eyeglasses), I'll be perfectly honest: I thought I was focusing on the mushroom in the foreground. 🤣 Anyway, here it is...

It’s all about pixels on the bird!
Long and or Zoom lenses are brilliant compensation for a lack of legs… when you can’t get closer to the subject. But you can’t beat nearness.
Here are three bird shots from today. The sparrow was right up close, the kestrel a hundred foot up, and the buzzard way up there. They’re all shot at 600mm but then cropped to roughly the same apparent size. The sparrow took almost no cropping at all, and the additional detail is clear.
Sparrow original crop 8205 x 5470 = 44.8 MPx
Kestrel original crop 2437 x 1624 = 4 MPx
Buzzard original crop 2419 x 1614 = 4 MPs and showing some optical distortion
Even at these reduced (1000 px long edge) resolution images it’s easy to see clarity cannot be cropped in. Get closer, when you can. But don’t climb electricity towers… 😉
