Der Dornige Wimperbock (Pogonocherus hispidus) ist gerade einmal 4 mm groß, besitzt aber beeindruckende Fühler. Es gibt ähnliche Arten, die sich u. a. an der Schildchen-Farbe (hier rein schwarz), den Flügelhinterenden unterscheiden. Er ist schwer zu entdecken, da er sich wie viele Käferarten bei Gefahr tot stellt und eher wie eine vertrocknete Knospe aussieht.

Frontalansicht des Bockkäfers Pogonocherus hispidus auf einer Steinoberfläche. Der Käfer besitzt einen gedrungenen, braun bis bronzefarben gefärbten Körper mit dunkler Zeichnung. Besonders auffällig sind die sehr langen, fein behaarten Fühler, die weit seitlich über die Oberfläche ragen. Auch die dunklen, behaarten Beine und die charakteristischen Facettenaugen sind gut zu erkennen.

This gorgeous chunky black bear just spotted a delicious salmon. At this time of year, bears consume up to 20,000 calories per day. It is called hyperphagia. I can only hope to eat that much! 😆
