Just one puff of wind up the ass and suddenly she started strutting around like Marilyn Monroe 🙄

Geeky side note here:

Yesterday I had a few minutes to play with a 100-400mm lens. I've always noticed how birders with super-zooms get lovey, shallow depth of field even when shooting with narrow apertures. While that shallowness puts a premium on accurate focus, it gives the birds nice separation from the bokeh'd environment around them.

This was the first time I experienced that myself. The pigeon, 45 feet away, was shot with a focal length of 400mm at f/8. My depth of field calculator says the DOF was only one foot deep. That's pretty narrow.

I'm used to thinking of f/8 as a landscape setting. For example: on a 50mm lens focusing on a church 400 ft from our house, f/8 leaves everything from 50 feet to infinity in focus.

Anyway, consider my sotted mind blown.

A pigeon from our local flock stands on the edge of a roof. It is looking at me looking at it. A gust of wind has lifted up its feathers, turning it into a little gray floof.

These pigeons are quite used to us and are pretty friendly. This one came running up to me. I told it about the lens I was using but I don't think it understood.

The Climate House at Hortus Botanicus, Amsterdam. 🇳🇱

One of my favourite botanical gardens so far, although tricky to shoot in this room. The camera was drenched, and the lens steamed up in only a few seconds, but I managed to grab this one with some beautiful natural light just in time.

My photograph of this intricate rock formation I captured at Newport Beach in the North of Sydney, NSW, Australia.

Intricate patterns in layers of sedimentary rocks display a range of earthy tones. The formations reveal the natural beauty of geological processes.

A detailed close-up of weathered sandstone revealing beautiful flowing layers, intricate patterns and rich earthy colours. Shades of rust, ochre, brown, cream and soft grey sweep across the rock surface, creating an almost abstract appearance. Shaped naturally by time, weather and erosion, the stone resembles a piece of ancient artwork painted by nature.

Near the water's edge around the headlands, you can also find the finer-grained, reddish layers of the Newport Formation (part of the Narrabeen Group), which also includes interbedded shales and siltstones.

⛪An abandoned church hall, later used as a nightclub. Somewhere in England.

Built in 1903 as a Methodist Central Hall, before its 1990s rebirth as a nightclub. It was a legendary rave venue for two decades.

The building’s history hasn't been without tragedy. It was the site of several fatalities: a fatal fall from the clock tower in the 90s, a murder outside the venue, and a drug-related death in the 2000s.

Measuring Up to Jesus

The other day when I was on Social Media a quote I saw from sales guru hit me: “You become what you think about all day long”. It made me ponder on what I think about every day, which lead me to realize how much my thinking – and lifestyle – has changed over the years.

I used to be more selfish, helping and serving others with the end motive of serving my own needs and ego, and praying for my own needs – talking to God more than listening. St. Francis says [that] it is through giving that we receive, and I took it literal.

Today … when I give of myself I don’t look for what I receive, because the real gift is how God is blessing others through me .. which I may never see. My agenda has become God’s agenda. Said another way, I live my life as a prayer.

If we focus our attention on bad news and gossip, and distractions, we will miss God's incredible, visionary, optimistic purpose for every believer: to grow so much in our faith that we shine like beacons to everyone around us!

God's vision for each church is that we would grow so much in our love for God that we'd love people the way He loves them: unconditionally and passionately.

I was just thinking about metadata, and it occurred to me that a big part of the problem with "ownership" of your #photography online is that #EXIF data is routinely stripped from files upon upload to social media.

I thought Mastodon would be different, so I downloaded one of my recent photos from here and checked. Sadly, no.

This seems like a huge oversight. I understand some people will want this for privacy's sake, but it should be something that could be enabled per account, surely?

Here's the EXIF data from the file on my hard drive, pre-upload, rightly identifying myself as the "artist".

It’s wild to see a 10+ block view clear of traffic south to Times Square. The protest march is right behind me. Thousands of people are watching and joining the route from side streets.
