Robocop places you in the titanium-coated-with-kevlar boots of Alex Murphy, killed in the line of duty and resurrected as the cyborg officer Robocop. The 2003 game features a new plot not featured in any of the films. Crime is up in Neo-Detroit due to the rapid proliferation of a new designer drug "Brain Drain," and the efforts of crime lord William Nexx to control its profitable distribution. Meanwhile, a mayoral race is heating up and getting dirty. And of course, mega-corporation OCP's role in all this is almost certain, but unclear.

2024年10月27日 评论 kinda skippable - I don't agree with people who say this is horrendous, but it is pretty basic and, for what it is, doesn't even execute the small number of mechanics very well. Its gameplay depth is on about the level of Wolfenstein 3D, which came out like 11 years prior. The only real difference here (other than the actual 3D) is the ability to shoot a weapon out of someone's hands and arrest them. Which isn't really very fun anyway. I think the level design is kinda interesting because it's open and gives you a lot of nooks and crannies to explore. Not that there's much in there gameplay-wise, but for me it was kinda fun to just look at the locations. I also enjoyed the graphics, even though they're like 3-4 years behind. When I was a kid, I played the demo of this, and I clearly remember it having an infrared mode or something like that, and it made a great impression on me. However, playing it now, I couldn't find it. I pressed all the buttons, and it just doesn't seem to be there. Maybe it's something you unlock later, but was just placed in the demo for demonstration purposes, demos do that sometimes. The thing I most hated about this game is just how slow you are. And I get that Robocop is meant to be slow, but then why structure levels and gameplay in such a way where that becomes a nuisance? Like, the least you could do is provide us with a map or a compass, to reduce the amount of backtracking you have to do. I only played the first two levels (didn't complete the second), and I must've spent at least 30 minutes backtracking and trying to figure out where I'm supposed to go. Thankfully, the locations don't all look the same, so you can usually memorize where you've already been, but, when you don't know where you have to go, you still end up wandering around a lot. There's honestly not much more to be said about this game, it's super basic, which isn't really a problem, but for a basic game, it's not even that good. I've definitely played much worse shooters, but for 2003 this is just so behind the competition. Still, at least it kept me curious for almost 2 hours, which is more than can be said about a lot of more advanced and acclaimed games.

2024年11月7日 评论 I feel like some people will praise any new features just because they're there, completely ignoring how they fit into the existing mechanic systems - Oh, what a great idea to add customization and absolutely destroy the perfectly functioning and sensible class system. Now, when you see an enemy soldier, you can't tell what weapons they might be carrying and how to approach fighting them, which just completely removes the strategic aspect of combat. In addition, isn't it fun to have to scroll through menus of individual items in the midst of a battle just to repurpose yourself for a different task? For example, I'm equipped as a regular infantry unit, but then I wanna destroy a few tanks, I gotta change my whole loadout manually instead of simply selecting a different class like before. Brilliant! The controls are also completely ruined. In the original BF2 on PSP, there is a standard control scheme where you move with the analogue stick and aim with action buttons, which worked fine on PSP and works perfect on Vita, where the aiming can easily be remapped to the right analogue stick. Instead here you gotta hold R down to strafe like it's a fucking GBA game, and use X (a button universally associated with jumping) to shoot. This is completely unplayable to me. Finally the Jedi, whom they made a complete mess that have to fucking stop to a crawl just to attack, and each attack animation takes forever to complete. Absolutely worthless. Have no idea why anyone would play this when BF2 is available on PSP, and now you can get modded versions with tons of new and unlocked content. I guess the graphics are marginally better here, but it also runs slower. No, thanks, I'd rather play with blurry textures and a smooth framerate.

2024年11月7日 评论 Significantly better than Renegade, but still a subpar experience - The customization is still there, which means you still cannot tell who you're fighting, but at least you can now select out of pre-existing loadouts + three custom loadouts that you can edit. You're now allowed to select a sensible control scheme, but it's still much worse than BF2 because there's no dedicated button for locking onto enemy with this scheme, and the auto-aiming system never does what you want it to do. In ground battles it doesn't lock nearly efficiently, only making you jitter, and in space battles it'll constantly lock, making it difficult for you to control the direction of the ship. Performance and animations are still just as bad. They implemented some features from the canceled BF3, such as the ability to switch between ground and space mid-battle. However, here it's done through cutscenes, which serve as glorified loading screens that interrupt the flow of the gameplay, making you not wanna use that feature. In addition, now there's a cutscenes every time you fly out of a hangar or into a hangar, making you wanna avoid space battles altogether. This game is at most a curiosity, as the actual gameplay is frustrating.

操作方面:主角能够同时拥有两种武器,通过SFC手柄上的X键可以切换,死亡时只丢失当前使用的武器;增加了“定位射击”的动作,按住R键攻击时可以站在原地固定不动任意向八个方向射击;L、R键同时按住时再按攻击可以同时使用手上的两种武器乱射。

情节

游戏共有6关,其中1、3、6为常规横版卷轴;4为强制横版卷轴;2、5为俯视视角画面,值得一提的是这两关充分运用了SFC主机的回转放缩机能,玩家可以用L和R键改变主角所面对的方向。主角从被破坏的城市开始,一步步逼近异形的核心。在最后一关,玩家可以看到很多前两作出现的背景和敌人,但在画面表现上都得到了强化。游戏难度极高,没有相当的动作射击游戏基础很难顺利通关。

There is a light story, presented as comic book style illustrations, that unfolds as the player take over territories and complete chapters.

2024年11月17日 评论 This game does not even attempt to replicate the look & feel of the flagship version - Not that its own style is bad, but I wish it didn't call itself Carbon or featured a similar cover art to the flagship. It does try to copy Carbon's campaign structure and some gameplay features, but does so poorly. The campaign is poorly balanced, and one of the team members you can hire instead of one of the old ones is an assassin. That motherfucker's only goal in life is to make your life more difficult. He's nearly useless against enemies, but will throw spikes on the road for you to drive on and pop your tyres. In general these companions are kinda more annoying than in the original Carbon, because the AI is worse, and they'll keep bumping into you. And, if one of them comes first in the race, somehow that doesn't count as a win. What kinda team are we, if we don't even share victories?

2024年11月19日 评论 Clearly a game designed for kids with a simple combat system and low difficulty level - There is some fun to be had with this. It's a competently made hack-n-slash game with really good animations and graphics that resemble the TV show it's based on. The in-game shop, where you can purchase extras with in-game currency, has a bunch of silly little bonuses, such as hats and big heads of other SW characters. The clone levels surprisingly adapt free aiming and a cover system into a traditionally console hack-n-slash paradigm, making it a sort of dumbed down gears of war with fixed camera angles. Though the actual meat of the game is obviously the jedi levels. The biggest problem with those is the platforming, which is just horrendous in this game. It's often near-impossible to tell where your character is gonna land after a jump. A lot of the surfaces are magnetized, but you never know when one is gonna work, so it can only create a false sense of safety. And, while the animations look really nice, they fail to serve their gameplay functions, as your character will repeatedly stop either before or after you released the directional button. It's not helped by the general stiffness of the character's movements. For example, when you jump in a specified direction, instead of it being an arched trajectory, your character will just kinda abruptly stop in the middle of the air and fall. The game could also use some kinda force-speed or dashing motion to help approach the enemies faster. That being said, while the combat side is generally well-done, it is extremely repetitive. The game keeps sending wave after wave of the same enemies, which you slaughter with no trouble. After you unlock a more powerful force-push, it becomes a joke, as you can take out entire groups of enemies with a single charged force-push, and there's no limit on how many you can execute. After about 2 hours of play-time, the game started to feel like a chore to play. I decided to quit after it soft-locked me once by having an enemy beyond the screen, whom I couldn't reach because the camera wouldn't move until I clear the area. Can't really comment much on the story, as very little happens in those first 2 hours. I've always considered the show kinda garbage, but heard a lot of people say it gets better after the first season, so I recently powered through the first season, and this game is set after that. So, honestly, I'd be very surprised if the story gets any good at any point later in the game. Far as I can tell, unless you're one of those "hardcore fans" that will eat up anything Star Wars, there doesn't seem to be any point in playing this. It's not a bad game, in fact it's kinda okay, but it's such a nothing game. Just generic and boring.

The douchiest commentator and terrible physics make it kinda funny. You bounce from wall to wall like a pinball. The game almost plays itself if you let it.

But playing it seriously is very hard because steering is not very responsive.

2024年12月4日 评论 It's a decent HoMM clone, but... - The problem is, when it comes to HoMM clones, "decent" kind of doesn't cut it, as it ends up feeling like a dumbed down version of HoMM 3, with worse graphics, worse music, smaller scale, and less intuitive interface. While the graphics are impressive at first, as they employ pixel 2D sprites and textures overlaid on 3D landscapes, the overall presentation is just kind of dull, compared to the HoMM games. For some reason it really tries to come off all dark and bleak, but in this style and setting, that simply reduces visual variety and gets old very quick. Also, I feel like the sprites in the exploration mode have way few pixels. Like, it's not even nostalgic because video games have never really looked like that. Sure, 8-bit games may have had less pixels, but they also had simpler sprites, and the TV's interlacing made them come together in a more coherent image. These days, when I play old 8-bit or 16-bit games, I use filters for that shit. But here the sprites only look nice from a distance, when you can't really tell what exactly you're looking at. When you zoom-in, it's a mess. The first 3 HoMM games that have pixelated graphics all look better than this, and the first game came out in 1995. In the combat mode, the sprites are more detailed, but still much inferior to HoMM's combat mode, so it's worse across the board. The music is okay, but is just kinda generic. Though I did enjoy the overall sound design. It doesn't bother me, but it's also completely incomparable to HoMM 2 and 3's absolute godlike music. Even Disciples 2 and 3 had better music, and better visuals, so idk why I should play this game instead. When it comes to the gameplay, there are a few differences from HoMM. For example, you no longer have the castle overview mode, instead it's kinda placed right on the map in the exploration mode. It's a cool idea, but you're given a limited number of slots for buildings, which, although adds some strategic depth, makes your first castle less valuable. The amount of available slots is so minuscule that you can't really develop a powerful economic and military base, forcing you to treat your castle as merely a camp to venture on a journey from. With castles feeling less special, it makes all your achievements in the game feel less rewarding. Because conquering an enemy castle was one of the biggest achievements in HoMM, and an even bigger one in Disciples 2 (as it was a near-impossible task there). Here, it feels more like capturing resources and production bases. Unit management is much simpler too, and the regular mobs are much weaker. You can get a relatively large army early on, and it's like you don't have to fight anyone anymore. In HoMM there was a diplomacy skill that allowed you to negotiate with the enemies, and then only after like a couple of hours of development you could get a massive enough army to scare off the mobs, but here you can achieve that in like 20 minutes. Also the campaign is super linear, kinda like HoMM 5, which I'm not a fan of. I abandoned it after 2 missions and went into the skirmish mode, which is much closer to HoMM 1-4. Ultimately, I feel like this is the kind of game that, after you play it for a couple hours, you've seen pretty much everything it has to show. Sure, there are more units and buildings to explore, I guess, but nothing that'll change the underwhelming core gameplay, which is really the most flawed apsect of this game. The problem is that HoMM 2 is a massive game in terms of scale and depth, and HoMM 3 is even larger. For example, there are 8 factions in the original HoMM 3, another one added with expansions, and several more can be added with mods. Songs of Conquest has 4. Some of the mods for HoMM 3 have been in continuous development for like 20+ years. There are thousands of different maps that are on average much larger than anything SoC can offer. You can basically just play HoMM 3 all your life and never run out of content. And I just don't believe that SoC, despite being a competent game, is original enough to provide any reason to play it over HoMM 3 or any other HoMM clone for that matter.

Caesar, a former top driver, now organizes illegal car races and invites the player to join Europe Racer, a race through different European cities. The focus is on the racing itself, but players also need to outrun the police who set up road blocks and try to bump cars off the road.

The game has been split up into three game modes: Quick Races (single track, duel, time trial, sudden death), Championship and Adventure. Quick Races offers all cars and tracks with different game types, while championship is divided into three sections, for each of the vehicle types: Standard, Sports Car and ATV. Adventure consists of 20 tracks after each other. The European cities included are London, Vienna, Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, Athens, Hamburg, Stockholm, Rome, Florence, Paris, Amsterdam, Marseille and Moscow. Each city has distinctive landmarks.

While racing, players can choose to represent a club, based on nationality and with a different car skin. There are more than 30 cars with different speed and handling, from regular cars to sports models and off-road ATVs. During championships vehicles can be upgraded. Players can pick up items while racing, such as boost, repair (cars can be damaged and have a visible damage model), invincibility and cash. The streets are filled with traffic, pedestrians and obstacles. There are different camera perspectives to choose from and there is support for downloadable tracks and cars.

2024年12月4日 评论 Somewhat fun, and definitely better than the previous "Racer" games from Davilex, but ultimately skippable - You get 3 game modes, the main one of which is Adventure. In that mode you create a character and take part in one large tournament, where every racer can pick between 3 different classes of vehicle. You can't really pick the actual cars. Each vehicle class has different car models depending on which club you represent, but, as far as I can tell, there's no actual difference in how they handle. The three classes you pick from are: Standard Car, Sports Car, and ATV. And only the Sports Car is really worth choosing, because the other two are not fast enough. In fact, the Standard Car is absolutely worthless because it has worse stats then the Sports Car across the board. Even Grip is better with the Sports Car, which doesn't make any sense. The steering is way too loose, but you can get accustomed to it. Except for ATVs, which do have a more normal steering, but they're so slow, you'll never win a race with them. Just pick Sports Car every time. The tracks are kinda interesting because they have traffic (which will constantly get in the way) and sometimes let you choose different paths, but the design can be very confusing. A lot of the times there are places that seem driveable, but are actually walled off. One track has this place where the road just casually proceeds into a wall, and you're supposed to find this tiny gap on the right, and it didn't only confuse me, all the other cars hit the wall as well. Before every race you can purchase upgrades, which last only for that race, and then during the race you can pick up money that you can then use to buy better upgrades. It does provide some incentive to keep playing. Finally, I found the graphics and music to be pretty decent. I think, if this was a game I had as a kid, I would've played the hell out of it.

2024年12月8日 评论 I did enjoy the amount I played, but it gets old very quick - It's basically like that Chernobyl mission from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, except better in every way. You can actually give out orders to your companion and have complete freedom over whether to attack enemies or simply sneak by them. Sure, the AI is stupid, as others have pointed out, but it's also stupid in Call of Duty. The stealth here actually works. And the premise is surprisingly realistic. It depicts an ethnic conflict in Burundi between Hutus and Tutsis, actual real ethnic groups with actual real history of violence in an actual real country. Compared to this game, CoD4: MW looks like it was made by illiterates. That being said, the inability to pick up other weapons makes this game extremely repetitive. Its interface, graphics (in particular bullet trails), and relatively large maps reminded me of the Delta Force series, which it kinda pales in comparison to. In Delta Force you're practically able to have the same experience as this and better, and with more variety. So, I don't think you'd be losing much by not playing it.

I wish they'd kept it abstract and let you just take in the atmosphere, but instead they forced this horrendous story with obnoxious characters, which just makes me wanna murder everyone instead of painting.

Nothing that we haven't seen before. It has this pretty cool system of picking up skills and mixing them with each other, but Bastion did it way better. The over-reliance on dashing is kinda overdone. I get that dashing was kinda fun in hack-n-slash games in the 2000s, but eventually this kinda makes you feel like you transcend physical reality, especially when you can attack while dashing (which is the case here), leaving you pretty much no reasons not to dash all the time.

I'd rather play one good game than 50 terrible ones. This is not how you do nostalgia. Not by simply imitating old games with all their flaws, half of which were due to technological limitations. The reason some of the 8-bit titles are fondly remembered today is because they somehow managed to rise above those limitations. In other words, in spite of them, not because of them. But the games in this anthology worship those limitations. They deliver an inferior experience by intention. A completely pointless project by today's standards. Might as well just go and play actual NES games.

2024年12月12日 评论 The game leaves a very strong first impression, but soon comes the realization that it's a one-trick pony - First of all, I'm mixed about the graphics. On one hand, the sprites look amazing. The detail and framerate on them makes them really come alive. But aesthetically it has that fake nostalgia vaporwave vibe that's been overdone in the last decade and a half. Idk who gave people the idea that the 80s were all purple. And there's no visual variety in the environments because it's all just corridors. It's like we haven't progressed from Wolfenstein 3D at all, which brings me to my second point. This gameplay is very repetitive. All you do is go through very linear narrow tunnels and murder enemies. While the animations do make the kills feel very satisfying, after 20 minutes you've pretty much seen them all. And the only gimmick that really holds this game together is the timer. You have to keep killing enemies not to die. It's like Speed, except instead of a bus, it's you. I'm not a fan of this feature because I like to explore the world and take in the atmosphere. And the game does let you turn it off, but warns that the game wasn't designed to be played without it. And true enough, without the timer all the game's flaws come to the surface. It's strange that they call that mode "boomer shooter" because it plays nothing like one. In fact, it's almost the opposite of a boomer shooter. This game has more in common with something like Hotline Miami, except less strategic. In boomer shooters, such as Quake, getting a rail gun meant a game of cat and mouse would ensue, where you would use the environment to hide and only come out for quick single shots. Here such a possibility doesn't exist because there's nothing in the environment that you could use for hiding or maneuvers. It's all just straight lines, with occasional platforms. It's not a game about hiding or thinking anyway. It's a game about moving forward at fast speeds and making split-second decisions on who to attack first and how, and then watching an anime lady scream at you. If you're into speed-running it will probably be fun, but as an old school shooter it's too basic.

2024年12月12日 评论 A shallow imitation of CMR 2.0 with none of the substance - Obviously I didn't expect it to have the near-perfect handling and physics of the CMR series, but the primitive level of these aspects in this game could only be tolerated in an arcade racer, not a simulator. For some reason there's information about the next track, when there's no way to tune your car or even select different tires. Fittingly, they don't even tell you what surface to expect. You can actually tweak steering and breaking in the menu, which applies to all cars, further proving that all cars here handle pretty much the same. And the collisions are just horrendous for 2024. They're like something you'd see in 1998 in an arcade racer. The original CMR came out in 1998 and just completely blows this game out of the water. Besides the somewhat similar visuals and sound, it is completely inferior to the game it's imitating in every aspect. But does it have anything else to offer? No. But hey, look, you can turn on dithering and texture wobble, how cool is that? Except, not everybody played CMR 2.0 on PS1. I, for one, played the superior PC version, and my nostalgia is connected only to that. And, even if you turn off these features, you're still gonna be left with PS1-era blurry textures and poorly patched-together skyboxes. When I play PS1 games today, I often use Duckstation to get rid of the artifacts caused by PS1's technical limitations, I don't need them here. But worst of all, there's a horrible pop-in. And no, I'm not talking about the Xbox360 era pop-in, where you could see LODs change into proper models. This is a straight up full-blown PS1-era pop-in, where it looks like you're driving at the edge of reality. This shit is the number one problem I have with PS1 racing games, but there I kinda tolerate it because they couldn't do better. Why are we artificially adding this to games in 2024? Do you enjoy seeing the world pop into existence before your eyes? I don't get that. In conclusion, I don't really see any reason for this game to exist. It's an utterly pointless creation. Just go back and play the original CMR, or its sequels.

It's a fine game, but there are so many different parameters and stats to pay attention to, it's overwhelming and feels like work. It's not helped by a somewhat clunky and unintuitive interface and weird scaling. My native resolution is 1366x768, which this game doesn't have, but pretty much every other resolution has very tiny textboxes and the text is selectively blurry, which makes my eye hurt with the amount of reading you gotta do.

Yet again, I don't understand the point of making a game that's just like another game with the vague promise that it's gonna make you feel the same.

This is just another in a legion of Age of Empires clones, except this one is 16-bit.
