Incredible graphics for the time and the cohesion and continuity of different gameplay elements is beyond some of modern games.

However, the game is ridiculously hostile towards the player. Not only are the controls intentionally difficult, the game outright lies to you, which leads to mistakes and deaths, with only 3 lives available.

Between the airplane, sky diving and jetpack modes (maybe there's more later on, idk), the jetpack is the only one that I found enjoyable, and it reminded me of a game I played as a kid called Aerial Antics. With the airplane it's hard to figure out your positioning in regards to other objects in space, which I think is a technological limitation, as the floor has no texture and every object is a 2D sprite. With the sky-diving, the gameplay is kinda dead simple, to the point that it barely feels like a game.

2023年4月10日 评论 This game has no personality and some of the most baffling creative decisions I've seen in a racer - First of all, why are we now driving through open city even during the races, like this was Midnight Club or something. In fact, this game has so little to do with Need for Speed that, if it was indeed called Midnight Club, that wouldn't change shit. Why can't you change controls? Why can't you select which songs you want to play (I know this isn't a feature in all NFS games, but it was in the original MW, and it's a good feature, why remove it)? Why do you unlock cars by just finding them? There's no sense of reward to it, who thought this was a good idea? Why can't you fast travel? Again, I get that not every NFS game had this feature, but come on, this is a good feature. Why can you only change your car's color randomly by driving through gas stations? Why are there only two camera modes? Why are cutscenes unskippable? Like legit there are so many outright confusing creative decisions, it baffles me that a huge corporation could let this pass. I thought they tend to play it safe, so what's up? The graphics are good, although completely lack a sense of style. This is one of the most generic-looking AAA racing games ever. The cars handle decently, and the sense of speed is well-conveyed. This alone makes it a playable game, but you can do so much better. I really see no point in this game's existence in 2012, let alone today.

2026年1月28日 评论 An amazing game ruined by its level-design - I am so disappointed, I honestly don't even feel like writing a review. Unlike Heretic 1, this game is basically a third-person slasher with shooter elements, similar to the later Jedi Knight games Raven would make. And the combat in this game is one of the best I've ever seen. Which is something I've also said about Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. You got the acrobatics, the dismemberment, the force powers (or spells here). I would call it a proto-JK if JK didn't already exist as a series. The amount of ways to fight the enemies provides an incredible amount of strategic depth. Actually, seeing how this game has no lightsabers, overall it reminds me more of Rune (funny enough, created by Raven refugees). Visually, Heretic 2 is a homerun. The environments here are so vivid and beautiful. There's a kinda Giger-esque insectoid hive, a Lovecraftian reptilian city, a "cloud fortress" seemingly somewhere up in the mountains. And there are a lot of platforming sections, which are actually kinda fun to play, reminiscent of the old Tomb Raider games. But man, the level design here is just fucking awful. Almost exactly like in Jedi Outcast. With games like this there's always that one moment when you go "oh, fuck off" and start using cheats or walkthroughs. I tortured myself through the first half of the game, until I reached one level where the solution was this tiny ledge that was just impossible to notice. I swear, if I didn't use the noclip cheat, I would've NEVER figured it out on my own. And it just doesn't get any better from that point. I eventually reached the penultimate level where you gotta find six switches. I've found four and bailed because even with cheats it was so painful to play. Basically I could've just tagged the game "completed" because the final boss was right afterwards, but I want my "abandoned" tag to forever represent how much I suffered with this game, so that I never touch it again. And man, it's such a shame, cause other than the level design, this is a masterpiece. It's most comparable to Jedi Outcast, but I actually like most of its aspects more than Jedi Outcast, but the level design in Jedi Outcast is probably slightly better because I actually managed to finish it. I initially wanted to get into more detail on all the great things about this game, but because of how much it hurt me, I have no desire to anymore.

2025年2月7日 评论 I've played and beaten the PSP version in the past, but this is my first time playing the flagship version - This is the edition I played this time, though the only difference with it is some extra costumes and boss battles, but I'll use this page to log specifically the flagship version, retaining the regular edition for the old-gen version. I gotta say, the PSP version kinda impressed more, mainly because they were able to fit pretty much the full game into it. The only main differences being the graphics and the destructible objects in the environment. The ragdoll physics are still intact in the old-gen version, and in fact from the gameplay perspective you barely notice the difference. However, the old-gen version has a bunch of other small features that aren't present here, and, from the amount I played, I think its mission structure is much better. I've always felt that the concept behind this game was simultaneously cool and flawed. Playing as pretty much the most powerful Jedi in existence is really fun for about an hour, but then it becomes kinda exhausting. Being able to just throw objects and enemies around makes you feel OP, and every enemy ends up feeling like cannon fodder. Plus it kinda makes no sense from the lore perspective. Anakin Skywalker had the highest level of midichlorians and was educated in a proper academic environment during the "more civilized age", whereas this kid was training in hiding by Vader, who was busy flying around the galaxy killing off the remaining Jedi. Yet you see this kid (and I guess Vader too in this game) pick up and throw around objects larger than what Yoda struggled with in episodes 2 and 5. But whatever, the story here, from what I remember, wasn't anything special. It kinda made you wanna play out of curiosity for what they're gonna do with the Star Wars license, not because you actually cared for any characters or themes. I think the main attraction here has always been the force powers and the physics, which do get old after a while. In addition, this time around I found the controls very unintuitive. I'm playing with a mouse, so I should have a higher accuracy than with PSP's thumbstick, but I found it repeatedly hard to pick up the items I want to pick up and throw them where I want to throw them. Sometimes the item will miss the enemy by like half a meter, which makes me question why there isn't some auto-aim implemented. I honestly don't remember having this much trouble aiming on PSP. But even when the controls are functioning fine, a lot of the times you will get hit at the last moment, making you fail whatever you were trying to achieve and destroy the item in the process, which is incredibly frustrating. Because enemies approach you quietly, and usually spawn in waves, which leads to scenarios where you think you've cleared the room, so you start fiddling with items, only to get a smack on the back of the head by another enemy that had just spawned. Oh, and the QTE scenes are too brutal. My reaction times are not nearly fast enough for them, and it seems like changing the difficulty doesn't affect them. Overall, this sounds like a rant because it kinda feels worse to play this compared to my memories of playing it on PSP, but I actually enjoyed the game. I just kinda find it a bit unremarkable now. It's a God of War clone with some cool physics gimmicks and more mobility, and that's all it really is. I think, in fact, if I choose to revisit it in the future, I'll probably stick to the old-gen version, which I find slightly more appealing. Plus, it weighs like less than 1/6 of this version. For whatever bizarre reason this Sith edition (which is the only PC port of the game) weighs 30 GB. That's more than even a Blu-ray disc could fit.

2025年2月8日 评论 for the life of me I don't understand what's so good about Halo - I feel like it's one of those games that got famous because it was the first FPS game that was designed to accommodate consoles and was shipped with Xbox. I literally watched a few videos that attempted to explain what's so special about Halo, and it all seems like a bunch of made-up bullshit. One guy was talking about the "mysterious" atmosphere of that first location after you crash-land on that ring-world, and he was like "look how quiet it is, there are no sounds other than the covenant" and like ... yeah, that's how nature is, go outside and listen, you weirdo. I mean you can literally hear birds and shit, there's nothing different about the location, except a cool skybox. And then later in the video he was explaining how the gameplay is so deep because you use different weapons for different enemies, which is like ... yeah, that's how most shooters are. Then he said, if you throw your grenade at the little guys, they'll run away, while throwing it at a big guy will make him charge you. So I tested that in the game, and nope, the little guy charged me. I think they just run in any random direction, it just happened to be my direction this time. I played the game for 2 hours, and I only had some mild fun driving the warthog. The actual on-foot shooting gameplay seemed very dull to me. To begin with, the huge static reticle and absolutely no feedback from your best and most common weapon is just incredibly frustrating. There is no zoom either. So most of the time you're just blindly firing at the upper half of your enemy, hoping some of those bullets will reach the head. And, because it's near-impossible to land headshots (unless you use a sniper-rifle), there is no skill to shooting enemies, which makes every encounter boring. Speaking of the sniper-rifle, for some reason it takes you out of the scoping mode if you get hit, which is also really frustrating. And I get that it's more realistic that way, but what kind of realism are we talking about in a game where you're a space marine called Master Chief shooting Pixar-animated aliens? I don't care that it's more realistic, I wanna have fun. And, if you wanted to add realism, you could've added some accuracy-level management, like increasing accuracy when you shoot in short bursts, when crouching and not moving. How come that doesn't take precedence over this annoying bullshit? Then there's the alien weapons, which are much weaker and have even less feedback somehow. One of them even has homing projectiles, which means you shouldn't even try for headshots anymore. There might be more interesting weapons later down the line, but I couldn't force myself to keep playing. The level design is very basic. It's always either an open location with some objects thrown in for cover or a bunch of corridors. Not that you couldn't make it work, but these enemies really make every fight a chore. So, I counted 5 types of enemies (sarcasm incoming): The little guys that always run around. Because we all love tiny mobile targets that are hard to hit, right? Guys with tactical shields. Because we all love when the enemies have an unfair advantage. Big guys with sturdy armor. Because we all love bullet-sponges. Big guys with a sword. Because we all love getting one-hit-killed. Even tankier guys than #3 that move slow and have rocket launchers. These are actually alright, except the game doesn't give you any heavy weapons to deal with them in these early encounters. Not even a shotgun, unless I somehow missed it. It's almost like they were trying to come up with the most annoying enemies. The graphics are incredible for 2001, especially for a console game, though aesthetically I didn't find them very appealing, probably because of constant dark corridors and cartoony-looking enemies in a game that tries to make you take it seriously. I think they should've just gone full cartoon and made it more colorful and whimsical. There's a tonal dissonance to the art style. This is pretty much all I have to say about my experience with this game.

The game isn't terrible, though the tactical elements seem pretty basic. You're constantly in thin corridors and only have to worry about facing the right direction. However this Vita port is pretty abysmal. Fonts are too tiny, performance is subpar, controls are unresponsive and non-customizable, and loading screens take forever.

Nice relaxing atmosphere and decent mini-games, but all the pervy stuff is not fun and not even satisfying from a perv perspective. Vita's technology is just not good enough to make these girls look any believable.

But even as a compilation of mini-games, there's so much unnecessary fluff that gets in the way and slows you down, making the whole experience feel like that scene from the Simpsons where the IRS seized Krusty Burger and made it a place where you have to file an application just to order some food.

2025年2月26日 评论 This is one of the games I actually bought on physical media, back when Vita was still new - I think I was a bit more lenient on it, even though even back then I remember getting bored with it quickly. Coming back to it now I find it bland to the point of irritability. If you think "generic Diablo-clone", you probably imagine this. Absolutely no personality, mandatory 3 classes with boring spells, and no ability to kite properly if you're playing a ranged class/build. Monsters will run back to their room and restore all health momentarily. Every location is an intestine: just follow along a single natrow path that sometimes turns left or right, no junctions. Idk, maybe it gets better later on, but the combat is so boring, I couldn't get far. I definitely have gotten further in the past, and I don't think it changed much. It's an overall competently-made game in the sense that it works and looks well enough, but it's so boring and formulaic, I don't see any reason to play it, let alone buy it like I did (btw will sell it, perfect condition, hmu). And the long-ass loading screens are completely unjustified.

2025年3月1日 评论 I spent many years hearing about how GTA 4's PC port was one of the worst-optimized ports ever - And it's probably true. My current computer is a laptop manufactured circa 2015, powerful for its time but still a laptop, which means it can handle some games from 2015 on low settings, but struggles with others. Can definitely run anything released pre-2015. Still can't run GTA4 at a playable framerate. Same was true for my relatively normal stationary computer in 2008. At some point in 2014 I bought a PS3, and eventually bought GTA4 for it, but didn't play it at the time because I guess I've never been crazy about GTA, I just kinda had the feeling that I had to play it. When I was a kid, I played a lot of GTA 2, 3, Vice City and San Andreas. Again, I could never really call myself a fan, but I always loved the worlds these games created. I have vivid memories of just inhabiting Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas, and every now and then I have a strong urge to return to them, despite the fact I've always found the actual games rather clunky, the stories in them boring, and the mission design abysmal. Yet I've also heard for ages how GTA4 basically addresses all these issues, finally giving a serious cinematic experience, inspired by Mafia (the game, not the actual mafia). So, I'm staying with my parents for a while, which means I got access to my PS3, and I decided to finally give this game a go on a console, as G-- I mean Rockstar intended. I honestly don't enjoy shitting on other people's favorite games, but I found this game absolutely unenjoyable and frustrating. The city, unlike its iteration in GTA3 and Liberty City Stories looks ugly to me. It's always either drenched in orange or shines this blinding divine light in your face, with the rest of the world having drab desaturated colors. Seeing how I only played the old games for their worlds, this one completely fails in that regard, as I find my very existence in it a torture. On top of that, the performance that is supposed to be good on consoles, is still regularly below 30 FPS. I think even in best case scenarios it's probably at something like 25, or at least it feels that way, and at worst it feels like it drops to 10. Then again it may just be how unresponsive the controls are. Combined with clunky physics and a heavily aliased look, it creates the sense that the game is just not running properly. I remember playing Saints Row 2 in 2008 and enjoying how they simultaneously expanded and simplified all the customization and menus compared to San Andreas. GTA4 literally did the opposite. You get less options for everything, yet actually navigating between them has become a chore. You enter a clothing store, and you have to approach items that are hanging on the walls, which are just 2-5 variations for each item type, and you have to wait for the animations for the character to try them on. I hated that in San Andreas, and I hate it here, except at least San Andreas gave you a convenient list to pick from. But I guess GTA4 thought it would be really cool to get rid of as much UI as possible. Meaning you can never tell what time it is or how much money you have by just glancing like you did in the old games. Why? Did anybody ever complain about having that information on the screen? One entire button is dedicated to a "cinematic camera" that in the past you could just select with your regular camera mode switch, but here you have to hold it for no purpose other than to look cool, despite the fact it makes playing the game more inconvenient. But honestly the worst thing here is that the mission design is still exactly the same. One of the earliest missions tasks you with saving your cousin and then chasing a guy on a car. I'm convinced it is impossible to actually reach him in that car chase, prove me wrong. Then he gets out the car and you have to run after him. He's hiding in a room on the second story of a building. I come there and start fighting him, which makes him, due to shitty AI, fall out the window, and I have to follow him because he's not dead yet. Then, after beating him, I'm trying to return back to the car, but I have to navigate through the building, as there is no other way to reach land from there. While I'm doing that, apparently I strayed too far away from the car, and the mission is failed. I fucking already beat the guy! It just logically doesn't make sense. Typical GTA bullshit. But I would've forgiven that, if any of this was any fun. But no, each mission feels like a chore, just like in the old games. So then I thought "fuck missions, I'll just drive around the city and see what I can find." But the game decided to reactivate the mission for me for some reason. That's when I gave up. I didn't clock how long I played this game, couldn't have been more than 90 minutes, but throughout the entire time it was nothing but frustration and boredom. Nah, fuck this, I'd rather replay Saints Row 2.

《英雄不再》(NO MORE HEROES)就是这样的作品。 《英雄不再》的监督须田刚一(通常署名「SUDA51」,读音与日语的须田刚一相同)向来以强烈的个人风格制作游戏,代表作如《花与太阳与雨》、《Killer 7》等游戏在画面风格、叙事手法等方面都有许多的相似处,不过《英雄不再》一改过去作品较为阴郁的故事主题,改以夸张趣味化的主题包装,游戏类型也是大众接受度较高的动作类型,2007年推出于Wii平台后在玩家与媒体间获得相当高的评价。

现在,《英雄不再》从Wii移植到了PS3与XBOX360上面,以《英雄不再 英雄们的乐园》之名,搭配着等级提升的画面表现和追加的新要素来与大家再次见面了!

2025年3月2日 评论 Love the aesthetic, and the story is quite intriguing, but I found the core gameplay a bit underwhelming - Every encounter basically ends with a QTE. I don't get it, same way as I didn't get running down a straight line and stopping for occasional rudimentary shooting galleries in Killer7. I'd probably still get through the game for the story and atmosphere, but all the extracurricular activities you're forced to do between missions were unbearable for me. Driving physics are non-existent, side-quests are often clunky and really basic, the town is really boring and unnecessary, the loading screens are long. Just let me play through the story, I don't wanna waste time on all this half-baked shit. I have heard though that this version is considered much worse than the original. It seems that the main gripes are with the combat system though, which seems almost the same from the screenshots. I assume on Wii there's probably more controller-wiggling, which is probably my least favorite feature here. Whereas all the between-missions nonsense seems to be present in both versions, so I doubt I'll try the original.

Certainly an improvement over the original in many ways, but it's still the same Resident Evil, which to me is a bad thing. I still can't tolerate the tiny inventory, limited saves, and a very rigid, unintuitive combat.

Whoops, you pressed a button one millimeter further away from where you were supposed to press it, get fucked I guess.

Weapons don't make sense either. You kill people with plastic bags, but can't find a rock or a piece of wood? And how is stabbing someone with a piece of broken glass from the back more deadly than stabbing them with it in an open fight? It's still glass, you should still be able to kill someone with a well-placed hit.

Probably the most atmospheric GTA game. The city still feels like a special place.

For the time it was a technical marvel, but possibly aged the worst. I remember first experiencing it after a long time spent in GTA 2 and feeling strange. It didn't feel like GTA to me, but that was part of what captivated me. The grey city felt strange and haunting with local population as lumbering homunculi and the player feeling alienated in this world. I think this feeling is the most valuable thing about this game, not the gameplay.

My nostalgia keeps bringing me back to it, but every time I try to do the missions, I quit within an hour at most. It is a frustrating experience. Just wreaking havok is much more fun, but it can only entertain for so long.

PS2 version feels foreign to me. I'm used to PC version's clear blue skies and smooth high resolution. I think this game's aesthetic represented a kind of idealized platonic sunny weather, with the tiny city being so easily recognizable and intuitive to navigate. To this day I want to experience sunshine and palm trees without heat and blinding rays of sunlight. Just blue skies and people wearing colorful shirts.

Vice City was in many ways the complete opposite of 3, but that's what made it more endearing. The gameplay was mostly the same with a few quality of life improvements. Some of the new gameplay features enriched the atmosphere of the place and made it more immersive. Still, the gameplay mostly felt the same, and soon you'd run into a mission you couldn't beat. Probably my favorite GTA.

The first thing I noticed about San Andreas was the art style of its promo materials and cover art. The second thing I noticed was that it didn't follow this style in the actual game, which I find a shame, I'd be down for a stylized cel-shaded look.

San Andreas is an example of more being less. Every new feature came with a host of its own problems, and the map is now too large to feel cozy or easily explorable. Still, aesthetically these games are probably the best representations of collective perceptions of America in the pop-culture.

Bought this collection circa 2015 because playing Silent Hill games on PC have always been a challenge for me, partially due to technical issues, and partially due to them being the type of games that are best played on a couch with a controller than in front of a PC. I remember thinking at the time that these versions weren't as bad as everyone said, but idk what I was thinking. I was even prepared to tolerate some alterations of Team Silent's creative decisions, but not the overwhelming amount of bugs. Practically at every point of the game there's something wrong. Even the fluctuating frame rate is making it harder to navigate menus and read comments of the protagonist because buttons become too sensitive and you end up skipping a lot.

Still can't bring myself to give it any less because even in a state this buggy, these games are beyond amazing.

Alien Rage? More like Alien Boredom. While a polished product, one of the most soulless and generic games I've ever seen. There isn't really a single thing in this game you haven't seen in a million other games. Very linear level design, invisible walls, environments are completely indestructible, except for pre-scripted places, and really bad AI.

2025年3月30日 评论 This game gets a pass for things Devil May Cry 2 gets criticized for. - Infested tanks and helicopters? Check. Low-texture urban environments? Check. Boss battles where you can barely reach the boss, so you're forced to repeat the same attack? Check At least in Devil May Cry you had guns for those situations, and the environments were actually huge, beautiful and varied. Here you run through claustrophobic tunnels, killing enemies with a single attack because that's all you have. Every enemy gets killed the same way. And I immediately started getting Best rankings for some reason. As much as DMC2 gets criticized for being easy (despite having several difficulty levels), actually getting S rankings there is hard. And DMC2 gives you lots of weapons, combos, and mechanics to play with. Shinobi is a one-trick pony. You either love that trick and watch it for hours or you're gonna hate this game. Because it's super repetitive. It's the same bullshit in a different form repeated ad nauseam. It does have pretty good platforming, but that's basically the only good thing about this game. They should've just ditched the combat and made it into a platformer.
