Droplet Dances (2026)
I really like the diversity of water droplets clinging to this leaf and the variety of colored bokeh captured at this angle.

Some days, you want to just not worry about getting your feet wet. The river calls out to you to step into it and wade along its path -- slowly, easily -- while the mountains beckon to you come forth and explore.

I was in no hurry to be someplace, because I was already there. I stopped, and fully immersed myself in the calmness, the peace, and the beauty.
Have you ever felt that? That realization that you don't need to rush, that your time, right now, is all your own, and you choose to spend it in a state of tranquility?
It's a feeling worth having again and again and again.

I was impressed by these crocuses that grew through cardboard sheet mulch to reach the sun 🌷☀️

Cyanocitta stelleri like to cut off bunches of Sambucus racemosa to eat the berries in private. Not all of them are great at picking ripe bunches 😅

Coyote Thistle for #ThistleThursday due to the common name... but this plant is actually in the Apiaceae family, while thistles belong to the Asteraceae 🤪
The scientific name is Eryngium aristulatum var. parishii and another common name is San Diego Button Celery.
This is a rare/endangered native plant, due to limited distribution and habitat loss. It grows in vernal pools, of which >90% in San Diego have been lost due to development.

1 of 2 These two tiny frogs were photographed less than a minute apart and within a metre or few. As different as they look (next post), I think they are both Boreal Chorus Frogs Pseudacris maculata (the ones that sing in ponds in the spring).Fast little critters+ crappy photos..lol
This is in wetland area on the farm just outside the acreage.

This black bear stood in the middle of the river and focused on a spot where many salmon had gathered. The bear was keeping a close eye on their movement, waiting for the right moment to jump and catch one.

Mrs. and Mr. Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) on an early morning stroll at a marsh.
Spotted during a recent photo tour. We heard their call first so we approached very slowly and quietly.

Motivated Monarch (2024)
I like both versions of this scene from the creek out back, but the crop of a photo can really change the feel of a scene, yeah? I typically like wider crops more, but square crops tend to work better for small screens because you don't have to ask your audience to rotate orientation for proper viewing 😅

It was the first time I found the Brown Beret Lichen (Baeomyces rufus) on a rock instead of on soil or gravel.
And when I took a closer look at the photo, I noticed some “hairs” all around this lichen, especially to the left of it. It turned out that these “hairs” are also a type of lichen, but so far I’m still very unsure to identify this hairy lichen.
